Purification By Christ And Not The Law

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Galatians 2:12-21 KJV
12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.
13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.
14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?
15 We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,
16 Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
17 But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
18 For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
19 For I through the law am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.
20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain

Jesus in his ministry obey the customs of the people and yet he also disobeyed by eating, walking and talking with the Gentile people. Gentiles are not Jews, distinction are people outside the Jewish community and faith. Opposition in Jesus' ministry often arose from those he ate and talked too. It is hard to grasp the full magnitude of these customs and effects they have on the religious community at the time of Christ, yet it continued even in the ministry after Christ ressurection. In general today people are welcomed into the community and religious world much different then the customs of yesterday. People generally accept if they seem serious about joining a group of people or even being part of a group of people. Does not mean one might not be tested for loyality and commentment. Purification was a tradition of Jewish people. Some Jews had received Christ but still were under the law of faith. They seen Christ as part of their faith and religious legalism. They still obeyed the customs of the Jews establed at the time of Moses. Washing and purifying for seven days.

Now i have read fiction books based on purification rituals of other religions and what I learned probably helped me more then just straight Bible. Reason being sometimes we must look from a different culture view to understand our own customs. Religious leaders from all walks of life tend to go through a purification ritual of some sort. Some even going through cleansing process of outward flesh and not just the purging of the soul for religious services. A purging of any sin or unlawful act from one's conscience and soul. A purging of the flesh that embrace any sin or unward dirt of the world. Some would say they meditated for a period of time of their faith and also prayed. These customs as believers in God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit we believe the purging comes through faith in Christ Jesus, he purifies our soul immediately and continual work on our conscience. Sin can not be avoid even if we tried. What I mean is even if we ourselves hold to purity of what we do in our own life, we will see the sin of the world around us, which taint our minds. Christ being the believer's purify through faith means one is purged already or the soul is, yet the believers brain is still filtering the world around them, and the Holy Spirit is correcting my soul even when sin comes into believers life. The continual work of grace in believers life as individual is something that is continual work of Christ continual intervention for our sin. The blood covering, or continual protection because of the seal of the Holy Spirit.

We are to separate ourselves from sin. In Acts in the continual scripture reading found below we see Paul following Jews tradition of purfication so he could follow custom of the Jews people that had been convert. Some still within the temple following the laws of Moses. Laws of Moses being a society law and will as religous law. I not sure if the people were able to see the distinction between religious law and legal law, as we can observe it today. If you read the whole passage is Acts you will see Paul was in trouble for bring some into the temple that had been purified but not Jews by birth. They had purified themselves by custom and God had purfied them by faith in Christ Jesus. They were purified by customs of the law, but not in the Jews belivers mind. The idea of separation of Gentile and Jew was still in their heart and mind. They would have been like the crowd in Christ day arguing about social custom of not eating or worshipping with the gentiles. If there be no difference in God's eyes between Jews and Gentiles why is there is society a difference. It has to do with cliques and social laws that get established to protect, and to segregate a people desiring to maintain a certain type of discipline in their community.

Is social discipline wrong, only to those on the outside of those social disciplines. Korea as its own social discipline it desires to maintain and not change in this since of the world beyond their borders. Is it wrong, only if you infringe on the rights of those that wish not these disciplines and give them no choice but to follow your legalism. There places where people can go outside the walls of their society and find a community they fit into or sort of fit into. There a point to all this talk of customs and discipline and believer in Christ is living by the law of the Holy Spirit. What that means is they walk in obedience to the Spirit. It is not learned overnight, but is taught by the Holy Spirit to the individual heart, soul and mind. The correction from God is much greater then the world. Yet the law of the world is designed to help us be people of codes and disciple of those codes that are not people of faith. God allowed these laws as protection of society of people.

Dear Heavenly Father, your grace is greater then all, but your correction is often quick to our hearts and mind. Thank you for your correction by the Holy Spirit. Thank you for your love that is willing to teach us. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Act 21:18-26 KJV
18 And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.
19 And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.
20 And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law:
21 And they are informed of thee, that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, saying that they ought not to circumcise their children, neither to walk after the customs.
22 What is it therefore? the multitude must needs come together: for they will hear that thou art come.
23 Do therefore this that we say to thee: We have four men which have a vow on them;
24 Them take, and purify thyself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their heads: and all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing; but that thou thyself also walkest orderly, and keepest the law.
25 As touching the Gentiles which believe, we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing, save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols, and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.
26 Then Paul took the men, and the next day purifying himself with them entered into the temple, to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification, until that an offering should be offered for every one of them.
