Time Of Christ: Who Is The Greatest In The Kingdom of Heaven?
6/20/2015

Daily Devotions:by Christina Farris

Matthew 18:1-14 KJV
(1) At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
(2) And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
(3) And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
(4) Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
(5) And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
(6) But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
(7) Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!
(8) Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire.
(9) And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.
(10) Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven.
(11) For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
(12) How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?
(13) And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.
(14) Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.

Was heaven to the disciples an out of their body place or a place on earth one might ask. Had the disciple thought of heaven kingdom much like earthly kingdom, that over time there be a change of leadership or rule, that they dare ask who was greatest in the kingdom of heaven. God is greatest in his kingdom. Yet he serves everyone of us. Giving bread to the hungry, giving water to the thirsty, and providing things necessary for survival, yet not all receive or are able to gain what God provides. God does not always lay out a big loaf of toast on a table and say eat and be filled, instead he requires others to get involved in the feeding process and getting people necessary water. Does God leave his people thirsty not in scripture He never did. Israelites had to ask for water and food, how long did they go before asking? Did God provide? We have not because we ask not, or we have not because God is allowing us to come to a place we ask and seek him.

God is a servant to us all, Jesus demonstrated this while on earth as he provided food for the masses as well as performed miracles. The question of the disciple of who was greatest in the kingdom of heaven cast doubt on what they believed and perceived. Jesus stands a child before them, and says one had to become like a child. He is speaking about faith in God to believe in his superiority and hierarchy in his kingdom. If one wanted to be great they have to learn to serve and if one was to be least one learn need to serve.

Jesus tells the story of the ninety nine sheep and one was lost and how the shepherd goes in search for the one that was lost. If one thinks about it, it be easier not to search for the one and count it has lost, yet God cares for the one missing. For the one needing Him. That is the greatest of God to care for the least as well as the greatest. He desires not to let any be abandon and left out. That why he sent his Son to go and bring those sheep that are abandon in. He hears their needs and their lack of hope. He hears the tears and he sends his people to care. He gave example through Christ his son and also the prophets, and through our neighbors.

The least in the kingdom of God is God because few seek Him, and yet He serves us all making him the greatest in the kingdom. He desires us all to go heaven. All to go home to be with Him, but not until our time on earth is done. The greatest in Heavenly is our heavenly Father, no one else that is like God. Yet one has to become like a child to believe.

Dear Heavenly Father give us the faith of a child, and knowledge to help those around us, as you have cared for us. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
