Eternal Life

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

John 17:1-4 KJV
(1) These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
(2) As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
(3) And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
(4) I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

Jesus is praying to his Father, and has not yet reach the garden where he is betrayed and delivered into the hands of the soldiers. God has given everyone that believes in Jesus and Him eternal life. The hope began in the Old Testament by salvation through the word of God and the word then became flesh and dwelt among us. That is simply how anyone claiming belief in Jesus would be saved because of looking to Jesus for salvation. Salvation always coming by the word and the word of God became flesh. Yet the word was more then flesh, it was also Spirit.

The hard questions is why is not anything else God created to be worshipped? The word was not created it was with God and was God from the beginning. The object is not God. The flesh of Jesus is not incorruptible, but the incorruptible form of Jesus is the heavenlies form that sat down at the right hand of God. The flesh died, but the resurrected Lord body became incorruptible body that would not fade away. A body that appears as the Son of Man, the body that was before His birth. Godís salvation plan was from the beginning, not just at the time of Christ. Many people around world that believe in God but know not the Son of God. They believe not the word of God, but they do the things of God. The call of faith then came to the Gentiles, long before Jesus died on the cross for our sins. The call of salvation to the world came through faith, so the missing ingredient comes through the Savior death and resurrection and that was victory over the grave, and yet the victory came because there is no longer punishment for sin upon belief in Jesus. No more purgatory for the believer, no more price to be paid for eternity for sin. God still corrects his people on earth, but not for eternal salvation, because Christ died and rose again. That whosoever believeth in him would be saved. No might or not maybe but would be saved.

Faith is important part of receiving salvation. It can only come through Jesus Christ because of who He is. Yet we can not ignore the Old Testament people of faith, coming by believing in God. Noah believed God and eight people were saved. Abraham believed God and found the promise land. Elijah had faith that saved his life from 450 Baal worshippers. When God says He promises eternal salvation through Christ Jesus you can take it to the bank of heaven with faith and cash your eternal check of faith in. Yet with knowledge and no receiving that check you not saved. One has to turn from sin the very act of repentance and ask God to forgive you of your sins and ask Jesus into your heart to dine with you and to teach you how to live a life more abundantly through obeying Him. Simple enough but it is only for those that sincere that will know the change Jesus can make in oneís life. None of Jesusí people are lost because they believe in God and the promises of God that come through Christ Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the promises that come through your word. Thank for sending your Son that all might have faith in your promises. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
