Time Of Christ: Simply Abiding

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

John 14:16-21 KJV
(16) And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
(17) Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
(18) I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
(19) Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
(20) At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
(21) He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Abiding in the Holy Spirit of promise is a gift of God. It is request of the Word of God in the flesh. It is a request by the Spirit to abide with the believer. It is a statement of what will be for each and every believer. The problem comes when one does not know about the Holy Spirit role in a believers life and even a non believers life. For the non believer the Holy Spirit comes to convict the heart but He is not indwelling the non believer. When one ask Jesus into their heart, a physical Jesus does not appear but the Spirit of Christ comes into the heart of the believer and dwells. Jesus Spirit is the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit governs the heart of every believer. Yet not all believers obey the Spirit of God. Until one receives Christ as Savior the Holy Spirit is on the outside of the door knocking to come in. He desires to show you He is real and not just a conviction of the heart strings of sin. When the Holy Spirit fills a person unspeakable joy will come. Someone never experiencing that joy, may experience the Holy Spirit gifts to the believer by the fruits of the Spirit. The fruit of the Spirit produced by His gifts are only a testimony to the individual as well as those around of receiving Jesus as Savior.

What important is to know that human flesh of Jesus was speaking here of the need of the believer to have the comfort of the Holy Spirit in their life. The Holy Spirit gives the believer the confidence of eternal life and the hope of heaven. The hope of eternal life was spoken of through out Christ ministry. To abide in the Spirit of God will be for eternity. Eternity is beyond the world we currently live in.

Dear Heavenly Father give us the hope of eternity in our hearts as we believe in you knowing you have sent the Comforter, the Holy Spirit to all believers, In Jesus precious name, Amen.
