The Tearing Down
07/15/2016

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Judges 6:25-33 KJV
(25) And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father's young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:
(26) And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.
(27) Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father's household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.
(28) And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built.
(29) And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing.
(30) Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.
(31) And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.
(32) Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.
(33) Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.

The tearing own of altars in Gideon day is only a reminder of how God wants to destroy any of the enemy idols in our hearts today. God allow Israel to be taken eventually into exile after thousands of years later after the time of Gideon because of Israel sin of Idolatry. Even allowing His House to be destroyed. Why did God raise up Gideon in his day. Gideon was a man obedient to God. God sent an angel and Gideon believed that no harm would come to him if he tore down the idols of Baal. And Idols of Baal were torn down the people rose up and were angry. The question came if Baal could plead for himself, then let him do it. Through out history of Israel from the of Egypt and maybe even before, because Abraham father was from a nation of many gods. The question then comes is the war scripture about who is to be worshipped whether it be Jehovah, or idols of Baal. Even our own nation struggles with these issues in our land.

America, a godly nation always, no, yet the freedom established were to help in times of ungodliness. Does the knowledge of God only rises to fall in the hearts of America, to allow the enemy to destroy the things of God. As wagons of blankets arrived for the Indians in our nation as part of a peace agreement, smallpox disease came in by blankets. A nation of treaties only to destroy a people that could not fight with weapons of mass destruction. Soon Indian villages came nearly ghost towns. Those that survived either adapted or new world or were killed.

If we live by a book to love, then one has to ask is destruction of idols love. The answer is when a people begin to destroy themselves by sacrificing their children on the altar of idols. When children are sold into sex slavery for drugs because of a desire more then caring for their own it is a problem. If the world is upside down and inside out, the world must ask, are we protecting our own. The government seldom prosecutes themselves over laws they break, becoming a law unto themselves. Most governments are that way. No one thinks about the secrets and sins that plague the governments because of greed, lust, and desire of wealth. Less talked about the better, but to ignore problems only means destruction will come. If by the hand of God or their own down fall by their own destruction.

When God told Gideon to tear down the idols of baal he did so with the knowledge his God was real and his promises were real. God gave Gideon the assurance needed that nothing would happen to him if he obeyed Him. Our confidence of knowing our obedience is necessary to overcome evil. Yet the two things of this world war over is God and Satan. Satan power has limitation. Obey God today in what he wants to do in your life. Whether it is to tear down idols in your life. The idols that stop your relationship with God. Go in peace knowing as these things that will destroy you can be destroyed by you cast them out of your life by obeying God. The enemy wants to put you in hell on earth, Godís people will never see the pit of darkness because of faith in Christ. It angers the devil, thatGodís people will prevail.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to obey you in all circumstances knowing the enemy desires to destroy Godís people. Enable us as a people to obey you by your spirit. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
