35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side.
36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.
38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him? If we study scripture long enough unless God be present by his Spirit, or form of man as in his Son Jesus, only teaching of God came forth and not the continual miracles of God presents in the days of Jesus. Time of Moses the miracles of God so special to set fear not only in the people of God but even the Pharoah and town and villages that heard the account of Pharoah as well as the trip in the wilderness. Not in every case did God work with his godlike power. For example Noah ark, a simple ship built of golpher wood saved Noah and his family in regards to structure of a ship designed by God and command of God on Noah life to build. Where did all that water come from God caused it to rain forty days and forty nights until the whole earth was cover. The story of Noah found in Genesis chapter 6 through 10. Yet we can go a step further and say no miracle in forty days of rain if it can scientificially prove for it to rain over a month. Even if we have rain for a month it does not cover the whole earth, so something extraordinary did happen to cover that much of the earth to where the ark landed on Mount Ararat. No other time in scripture did God have man build an ark for sailing. Yet Jesus road a boat and even napped on it. Jesus was caught out to sea in a boat with the rain coming down and in the boat to where it was ready to sink and he sleeping peacefully. Ever thought why Jesus slept peacefully. He was on pillows back of the ship. They said to Jesus don't you care we are about to perish? Jesus arose and rebuke the wind and the sea became calm. The wind and sea obey Jesus.
No one would understand two things miracle just took place by the power of Jesus commanding it to occur and one more thing it happened before the sea and wind over took their ship. The evidence they were bout to perish was evident to those on board. In fact if Jesus could not do a miracle, they would surely perish in the sea. First we sometimes need to know we are in danger to the point we loose our life before we look to Jesus to save us. Second Jesus maybe the only one that can save you at the moment one is about to perish. Was there any other possible solution for salvation aboard that ship definitely not. There may not even been a break in the clouds to indicate salvation was at hand. The fact Jesus was the only protector in the storm and it was by his power that the sea and wind calmed when he said unto the sea, "Peace be still." The calm came and wind quiet as well, and the disciples wonder who is this man that even the winds and sea obey him. Nature's forces obeyed Jesus. Moses had participated in God's power to see plagues poured out, and plagues ceased, but it been centuries sense this type of event happened. Was Jesus more then Moses, who was this man. Elijah had prayed for fire to come from the sky and ignite his sacrifice after soaking it with water. No nothing had seen like this event in over 1000 some years or more. Jesus was demonstrating Emmanuel(God with them). Yet they still did not understand who he was.
For centuries the scribes, priest, pharisees and Sadducees had taught the people about God but the miracle of God was not void, but not prevalent as in the days of Jesus. Paul taught the church edification was important to the church to build it up, to not stop people from speaking in different languages or even by God's Spirit, but to build up the church by teaching preaching, song and prayer, in language that all understood If God's ability is still present in the church for healing and miracles why is not all healed, or why is not all delivered. The answer lies maybe in this storm Jesus was sleeping through and many miracles of those who suffered for long periods of time. It was not that God did not want to provide the cure, or did not want to heal. It all about God's timing to the time of the storm in one's life. Jesus tells us there will always being physicians among us. Then we need to ask if the miracle we desire going to be beneficial to anyone besides ourself. I watch a woman go down front one day in a little church and what I seen was not normal prayer request. She said she had a boo boo that needed prayer for. I looked at the arm and seen no boo boo, but she claimed it was hurt. I really hope the pastor would turn her around and send her back down the isle, but instead he prayed for her, maybe more for salvation then the non seeable injury. We both knew the woman perhaps wanted attention. I not saying she was lying, I saying what she claimed did not exist on her arm. Whatever she really need to be prayed about was not on that arm, and with as much compassion he could show he prayed for the woman.
Reality of faith and the reality of need is sometimes not seeable, but when it is, all know it and when that miracle occurs not just the one asking for prayer see the results of answered prayer, when a miracle is performed. Maybe the delay in answer prayer is when that storm comes crashing to a point of one might just perish, Jesus is reaching out and saying Peace be still instead of there is no boo boo. Now all injury is see able, but over time, ailment is noticeable. Not only noticeable but the need for deliverance maybe more necessary or the end will come shortly.
Example in scripture of a man born blind now seeing and his parents were still living that made them at least about fifteen or seventeen years older then the man if not more. Who would take care of his parents in their old age, or even him after they were gone. Did the man live alone, the story in truth does not tell us. Yet we know at fifty the need for more help would grow with age, so for moment imagine with that healing came the power to help his aging parents and maybe even himself. Woman with severe bleeding, problems working perhaps, and no one coming near because of her condition, when she touched the hem of Jesus garment and was healed. No one know the effect that miracle had on her beyond the fact she was healed and it been for a long period of time and that the woman was desperate when Jesus healed her.
Is Jesus doing miracles in our desperation, or only the boo boo. What purpose was the miracle performed at some point hopefull families rejoiced with families or spurred others to seek Jesus. No doubt the calm of the storm would be told and people would wonder about the event unless they were on the water with Jesus in a boat or ship. God is building and he using miracles and his power for a purpose. To wake the world to his power, and his ability to answer prayer. That open doors and enabling man to take care of his people with his instruction is not all God is willing to do for man. Sometimes we have to believe God is able to do more then we ask. That he has the power to do more then give man instruction to build an ark, or pray for fire to come down from heaven. That he has the power to save our soul. To do all we ask in his name, even if he does not fulfill what we ask right then and their. Sometimes we need the miracle as a reminder God is able to do more then we ask, sometimes we have to become desperate to seek the impossibility in our life by seeking Jesus. And more then just one person going to know God's miracle power in our lifes when he does great things for us.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to to be afraid to ask, but to seek you in the storm, let you be glorified by what you do for us, despite our enability to fully understand. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study:Mark 16:15-20 KJV
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
