(21) Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
(22) But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.
(23) Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
(24) Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
(25) Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
(26) And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
(27) She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world. |
This is story is about Martha. She is mourning for the lost of her brother. She believed if Jesus had been there he would not have died. I have heard stories where people have told minister if they only had been there to pray their loved one would not have died, but Jesus is more then a minister He is the Christ the Son of God. Martha believed in the resurrection to come. Jesus is the resurrection and the life. When we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior our sins are buried with him as we repent and turn away from our sins, asking God to forgive us. Our first act of faith is belief and our second is repentance. With our sins buried through Christ death we are then raised up in to the newest of life. In other words the old is gone the new has come. The old passing away, but we have a chance at a new way of living, and that is living for Jesus. No longer going back to our sin but turning from it. The resurrection of Jesus had not taken place at the time of Lazarus death. This meaning Martha understood there was a resurrection prior to the resurrection of Jesus. Elijah never tasted death and neither did Enoch. They were righteous before God. Elijah went up in a chariot of fire never tasting death. The idea of the ability not to die, comes from the stories of the Old Testament, along with a few of people being resurrected.
The belief of the resurrection was not believed by al the priesthood there were different sects that believed different things. It much like the divide church world is today. The division are based on what they believe not or believe about the Bible and God. Though most Christian churches have a base line of fundamentals there is always those exceptions of differences. Resurrection of the dead should not be one of them. Those dying in sin, will rise to face the judgment of God. Those that have passed physically on, well return with Christ when He comes. For spiritually they are not dead.
Though each believer will still remain in this world after confession of sin unless they die on their death bed after receive Christ, their journey will begin with Jesus. Begin with repentance and moving on to good works, laying side the sin of this world.
Grief is a powerful thing, and yet the truth of the matter is even with grief the hope of the resurrection hold true to everyone loved that has believed that goes on before us into heaven. Knowing one day we will see them again. If you are familiar with the story of Lazarus, Jesus would raise Lazarus back to life. Only for about a week later he would die himself and be resurrected by His ability. The disciples though having proof the resurrection would still have a hard time grasping the reality of the resurrection of Jesus, and yet with the proof of the nail scarred hands and the wound in his side, it would be enough to believe.
For each believer today we take it on act of faith. Faith is something that has to grow. I think if I had not believed as a child, I would be very skeptical about this man name Jesus and who claim to be. Yet God has never failed to give me evidence over the years of who Christ and He is. It the road of faith that enables even the worse of doubters to have faith. Have no ability of your own to believe that okay just say God help my unbelief. That first step is a short prayer, but it is a beginning. If only beginning God can work with truth of someone unbelief. It might not be over nigh, but one day it be in twinkling of eye if nothing else when the trumpet sounds.
Dear Heavenly Father increase the faith of your followers and for the unbeliever, we ask you give them that hope that the people of faith have. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: 1 Corinthians 15:51-54 KJV
(51) Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
(52) In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
(53) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
(54) So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. |
