Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Judges 1:1-3 KJV
(1) Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass, that the children of Israel asked the LORD, saying, Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites first, to fight against them?
(2) And the LORD said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.
(3) And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.

If you ask God, who to lead you will be victorious if you heed His word. One of the greatest mistakes of any nation is not to have God on their side. Many nations today claim in God we trust, yet do they. Nations with universal religious freedom never know what god a person is fighting with. A god made of stone or a God of all creation.

Israel ask of God for help going against the Canaanites. God said the tribe of Judah should go up against them. The tribe of Judah would be the ruling class in Israel. The kingly line would be coming out of the tribe of Judah. Yet at this time, it not seen as the kingly tribe. Who God appoints is effect by who is leading the nation of Israel in scripture. This one answers would effect Israel for a life time, the answer is no. For kingship had not been established yet. In fact there was no monarch in Israel at this time. This was a time of judges where the judges lead their families in both worship and war. The priesthood was established, but the law system encouraged by Moses’ father in law was still in place. The religious law and governmental law were combined under God. The prophesy of the kingly line can be found near the last of the book of Genesis, as Israel/Jacob blessed his twelve offspring. Yet the way in which the first king would be chosen did not come with asking God to be Christ like but to be world like.

If God is the ruler of your heart are you asking Him to chose a worldly leader to lead, or are you asking Him to help guide you in the next step of the journey in your life? If you are wearing the armor of God you need to make sure you ask of God how and when to fight the battle of faith. If you want to be victorious you need to ask God how to win, and allow the Holy Spirit to be your guide. If you want that Christ/the Word the center of your life, one need to ask Jesus into your heart first for salvation of your own soul and then ask God to teach you to use the armor of faith. Through out Israel history God’s word was not the center of their heart. God warn Israel they would need to worship and follow Him if they wanted his blessing both in their nation and in their personal life. God has not changed in this regard. Jesus being the word of God that came in the flesh, must become the center of your heart. Willingness to obey God is the second. The worship of God is priority.

Israel was still at a place they would still ask God for direction in battle. In battle of faith, we need to ask God for direction, not the world. God is not a God that changes, for this reason we know asking God how to win, is important. Allowing God to make the choices.

Dear Heavenly Father, we ask you to govern our hearts and minds through your precious Son Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:Hebrews 8:8-13 KJV
(8) For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
(9) Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
(10) For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:
(11) And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest.
(12) For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.
(13) In that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish away.
