Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 14:16-26 KJV
16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
22 Judas saith unto him, not Iscariot, Lord, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Judas Iscariot who would betray Jesus ask him how will you manifest yourself unto the disciples? When one accept Christ as Lord and Savior the Spirit of Christ not only marks the beliver but a room is made in the heart for him to dwell. We put many things in our heart, not all good I am afraid to say, but our heart is the dwelling place of the Lord in the believer.It begins with a simple acknowledgement of faith and repentance, and asking him to dwell in our hearts. The Holy Spirit is a direct gift from God for each person of faith. Old Testament example would be King David. King Saul would be example of how God's Spirit had chosen Saul as a king but not a man of faith persay. The first king being the direct opposite of God, because of man's undesire for God to rule. Yet Saul's own desire to be great, hender his relationship with God and would day the Spirit of God would be remove from his heart, the anointing or call of King from Saul's life was taken from him.

It hard to imagine this process of the Holy Spirit in regards to him moving in the lives before the cross, but it true, because even John the Baptist had the Holy Spirit with him in his mother womb before his birth. God spoke to Cain before he sinned by his Spirit. Yet it did not prevent sin, but it caused him to be marked and cast out of God's sight for disobedience. The Holy Spirit came upon men to do great work, such as architech design and even to enable Moses to lead the people in the wilderness. Gifts of the Holy Spirit was to give ordinary people the power to do great things beyond sometimes their own capabilities. Some things occur with training from God and some things come from God's anointing and empowerment in which great things are accomplished.

The Holy Spirit and Christ Spirit is the self same Spirit.The Spirit of God dwells in the inner soul of all believers giving to each at liberate the gifts of the Spirit as needed to fulfill his will and purpose for believer, the group of believers and the universal church of believers. If the Holy Spirit is like a glass of water poured out, each droplet is only a small dose of the larger glass being dumped upon a person. Now if you imagine for a moment by document church enrollment that all were Christians how big is that glass of water if all had at least a drop or mark of the Holy Spirit, it would be a pretty large outpouring of God's Spirit into the world already. However we can not go by the church roll or even the confession of faith, we must go by God's Spirit to know the body of believers, because many say they believe and it is only lip service for some people. It sad but this really happens, and that how bad leaders sometimes get in positions in the church instead of God's choice, because of lip service to God.

Judas wants to know how Jesus would manifest himself to the disciples and Jesus says if we love him and obey him God will come and he and God would abide with him. Jesus endorse obedience of love here and not belief. Have you ever wonder why, if Judas did in one since the will of God, by his betrayal? How could Judas Iscariot be not a believer, and loose God's Spirit, with the devil also entering his heart to betray Jesus. Did Judas ever have Christ's Spirit in his heart. The answer is simple in one since, he walk with Christ, knew Christ, but only obedient in regards of keeping the money bag. Some might say some televangelist have the money only because they obey Christ and received wealth for their actions. Their heart are only full of greed, but their action of obedience because they would receive money. I had two ministers of greed once say if you do this people will give you money for ministry. If you marry someone or you bury them I guarantee you will be paid for service unless you refuse it. Even funeral homes charge people for the service of burial, so the minister is sometimes paid by the funeral home. Now with this in mind what about other things one is paid for in ministry. Perhaps a helping hand, when no one else would help. Maybe to hear a good sermon, or to do the rituals of the church world. Christmas and Easter being a big day for some ministers.Some parents even leave their children in the hands of the minister to learn the way to heaven, and to make sure their kids get baptized. Ministry can have it own reward. Judas seen the value with healings, miracles and signs, the value of money, for he held the money bags of Christ.

Christ only in a few places talked about money and it reward and unreward. He also taught to give all to the poor, and to help the widows and orphans. Judas carried the principals of God with him, but it had not taken root, to the point Satan had power in Judas life when it came to money.Judas would of learned to bring people to Jesus, to move the crowd away from Jesus, how to cast out devils, how to heal by the word of God. Yet he lacked like Saul when it came to desire of the heart. His heart seen gold and silver, and not love of God. Jesus was telling Judas to love and to obey, that loving God and others was most important to receiving God's Spirit. Belief was first of course, but obedience is spoken of here. And God's commandments is about love.

When one think's of the Holy Spirit as being a comforter, the idea of God sending him was Old Testament teaching. The idea of Christ sending coming by God's word, Christ being the word of God, was not an unknown concept when you use God's word being Christ. Jesus promised the Holy Spirit would come if he left, but was not the Holy Spirit already teaching one like Peter. What is different Peter choice to follow Jesus not only his own, but his desire to obey not for wealth or greed but loyalty to God and his Son, because God's promise was being fulfilled. Two very different disciples, one still searching for truth and one already committed to Christ. One not understanding about obedience came from the heart to love. One not understanding the ability of God to send the comforter to teach even at the present. How many other disciples were still seeking, doubting Thomas was one seeking, yet never fully perceiving until Jesus showed his nail scarred hands. And as soon as Thomas seen Jesus he bowed and worshipped Jesus in the upper room. How long had those disciples been with Jesus, three years, but even with all the miracles and power displayed faith was slow in sprouting for some. Even with the wonders coming from their own hand. Faith being a process of not only proof and evidence of God, but faith being a process coming with believing the reality of all seen to be true.

David wrote the 23 Psalms with the knowledge of the anointing of God, for his cup over flowed with goodness and mercy all the days of his life. Yet we see him seeing God has his shepherd, his protector, his comforter, even when a table is prepared in the presence of his enemies. His desire was to dwell in the house of the Lord forever. To be in the presence of God forever. Had David big sin happened, perhaps not, but we know he understood the comfort of God was to dwell in the presence of the Lord. Jesus had to die on the cross and to rise again for some to believe. He had to finish the work God sent him to do, so faith would be spurred on to love instead of hate. His ability to love despite the persecution and to die for our sins. The disciples were also probably more reliant on the physical presence of Jesus then the Holy Spirit and so Jesus would have to leave for the Spirit to be greater then he was to the disciples. They would learn to walk and be lead by the Spirit. Jesus physical presence could not be everywhere but his Spirit could be. With him going away the Spirit of God could be poured out on the believer to do the Father God's will.

The road of faith is more then just doing God's will, it is about receiving the comfort of the Holy Spirit in times of grief, abandonment, fear, weakness, and times of doubt. His comfort to encourage in times of stress, and wondering if it just simply going to be alright. The Holy Spirit can give that feeling of a big comforter blanket, but he more then a blanket and much more to the believer then anything physical that could wrap around us. In our weakness he is strong and in our strength he is our rock and foundation in which to stand upon. The sword of the Spirit to use to fight with. Our reliance on God must come in our walk with Jesus at some point. For awhile we learning, but it takes faith to obey the Spirit and not doubt.

Today maybe sharing more from my heart and experience then just the facts, because sometimes we need to know about the walk of faith to know it possible to achieve reliance but it never perfect reliance because of our humanity. It something we grow into and not always every aspect of our life. Jesus working on certain parts so other parts become clear when it comes to allowing Christ to rule in that chamber of the heart.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for the Comfort of your Spirit in our hearts upon salvation, help us to rely on your comforter for our protection, faith, hope, actions in the work of the minister and daily living. Help us to hear that call of love by your Spirit to obey in love, faith and hope. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 1 Corinthians 12:4-12 KJV
4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

Psalm 23:1-6 KJV
1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
