1 And Jesus answered and spake unto them again by parables, and said,
2 The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,
3 And sent forth his servants to call them that were bidden to the wedding: and they would not come.
4 Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them which are bidden, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
5 But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise:
6 And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them.
7 But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.
8 Then saith he to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they which were bidden were not worthy.
9 Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage.
10 So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests.
11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment:
12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless.
13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
14 For many are called, but few are chosen.
Luke 11:1-14 KJV
When a person first comes to church several things may occur they may not know how to dress or might not be concerned about their outer attire, but does that make a person unworthy to hear the Gospel message and to receive the message of faith. People maybe not have a wedding garment on but will come to see what was being served in a church. When does the wedding dinner take place? It is in heaven, the feast not one for those without a garment for the day of the wedding. The wedding a time of joining God the Father before the last judgment. It is the time of the casting out of heaven those that do not belong. Ones without faith. How many stand before God's throne only to be cast out? All invited to the throne of God but not all worthy to be in God's presence. What makes us worthy to be at the throne, faith in Christ Jesus, the word of God and the salvation plan of God.
What the point if we are called but not chosen, we not chosen because we did not keep our wedding garment of faith clean? No not chosen because we did not have one on. Many are called to believe in Christ and God's word and never do. They live by the word of God in regards to love, kindness, gentleness and so forth the best they know how, sometimes with only a human examples before them. Yet it does not mean they have faith in God and His Son.
Take note the man kicked out was called friend, but the king did not treat him as a friend, but as a person unworthy to be their because of his attire. God calls us all friends, only to cast some friends out. The man was called friend for showing up, not because of belief. We all we give account of ourselves before God's throne, and all are invited to the throne of God but not all will be received as a believer. See even atheist will be called up to the throne and to the feast only to be cast out. Those remaining will dine, and those cast out will be weeping and gnashing of their teeth in anger and pain.
The disciples in Luke wanted to know how to pray. The relationship we have with God is not just built on faith, but it begins with faith, and then how to communicate with the one we believe in. A double message, yes and no because many are called to faith and hear the word of God and even believe for a time, but soon loose faith because they have no relationship in the one they believe in. God is not just calling people to believe and obedience, but to a relationship with him and his Son. A relationship to pray to ask to receive from God for the work of the ministry, to have personal relationship of faith with God to know him in our call of life on earth. King David was a man of faith, but also had a relationship with God, and is demonstrated through the Psalms, from praise to even questioning God at times.
Job a man of faith was seen asking God not only for advocator but defending the greatness of God to his friends. Abraham was called a friend of God, but called friend because of his faith, not because of his outer attire or humanity, but because of faith. How many of us can look like the Jones only to not be a Jones. Our houses may have the latest outward appearance, but inward it is a garbage dump. How many times do we look and dress the part, but inward we not part of the group.
I remember a wedding I attended, and their came one in without a wedding clothes, but wearing jeans and a tee shirt, not dress in suit. Yet this person talked to the minister as if he belonged to the group of people there. I later asked who this person was, and found out he attended the minister church and had stopped in for a second to wish the minister and his wife will on their 50th wedding annivery. His attire not right for the occasion but it matter not, he was friend and welcome in to enjoy the celebration.
How many of us talk to God? First thing talking to God we need to have at least respect of God. He calls us to hallow his name, to realize he is holy God, not a God of uncleaniness. Two He calls us to agree to allow his will to be done on earth as it is heaven, he calls us to forgive and to love others. To come to him through prayer, that what we go through will be his will for our life on earth as it will be in heaven. That is a hard one, because our will is not always the same as God, though it ought to be. If carrying our cross facing the laws of the land when in opposition of God and only obeying God is what God's requires, then we bow only to him and not the law or face the consequences of the law.
We talk about friendship and knowing God we must understand it began in the garden when God came look for Adam and Eve and they were hiding because of their nakeness. God's will for Adam's and Eve life spoiled by the temptation to eat the forbidden fruit which they did eat. There was plenty of trees to choose from, just do not eat from that one tree. God's will being broken and consequences of breaking God's will coming with a price of separation from God presence and his garden. Yet his presence never left man, he continued to talk with man, communicate with man on this place called earth.
Jesus' disciples asked how do we pray, or talk to God. We need to know when we ask of God anything we desires to grant it, but it can not interfer with his will. To desire the lust of the eyes, is not in accordance to God's will. For you to married might be, but it not because of lust, but for companionship he provides a spouse. He grants a better job based on your talents to do the job, and the fact you give of what you do have to help another. Many rich men give the shirt off their back, but they know it can be replaced, a poor man that does has no clue if he will get another shirt and if he does it by God's grace and a need for a shirt. The shirt not always fitting as it should. Maybe the shirt made from bed linens by a wife, until the summer harvest is complete, because simply shirt more needed then a sheets. Our ideas not so absent from God's will, but hardship is sometimes a part of God's will. It easier to examine life from the want verse then the will of God. What can we do without? Sometimes the things we do without is not want but a need, that is not a desperate need today but will be in time to come. A shirt in winter in a need and probably a want.
My gym use to have Pizza on Monday, now pizza on Monday in the gym is a desire not a need. See those pizzas are going to health care workers and no one argues against that especially in this pandemic. These are workers that had no time to even think about cooking, but how to take care and protect themselves in this crisis. We pray, not our will Lord but thine. Knowing he provide for us, because he know we have need of, not out of our desires, but knowing He also bless us with our desires.
There is a point God see the desires of our heart, but it not always beneficial to his will, but he often gives those desires in the way that best. What do I mean. At Christmas time children get many things from their parents, incuding things they did not exactly ask for. See children see the toy catalog desiring many things, but the parent may go to the store and sees the better toy, the better game, the more difficult toy that curiousity will last longer then a few months. The learning will keep going for a year or maybe even two.The desire to get that toy like the jones being short lived when the toy that is better is seen. No longer having to keep up with the other.
God knows the desire and the need, but he also has his own agenda in the world, and his agenda is for his will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. His power to rule in earth, with man saying yes Lord, your will not mine. What do we get, from following after God and obeying Him, above everything else, sometimes a wooden cross and sometimes a bed of roses with thorns. Sometimes we get the happy golden years. I was think the other day when my husband was taking me to the store, I feel pretty happy or satisfied for the moment and I see a brighter future, despite my eye issues. Then my mind said eye issue, and I said will at least I am happy, for the present and not worrying about tomorrow, when problems may come and go.
Understanding our relationship with God is about us communicating with him and asking him, to talk with him, though he already knows our heart. To be like Christ during times of opposition and pray on the mountain alone. To take the pain we feel in our heart and communicate it to him. To take the joy and moments of elation and thank God for the things in our life, to communicate our praise to him. To honor him with thanksgiving and respect of who he is and his will for our life. We must understand why his will is important. Why his leadership in our life is important. God knows what is best for us. He knows all about us, to the point we might feel like then why do I need to pray. It because to have a relationship one needs to discuss things with our Heavenly Father, with Christ being our advocator. Devil having no room to talk.
Dear Heavenly Father, you call many people friend but not all have faith in you, wearing the garment of hope, love and faith. Wearing the blood covering of Jesus. Wearing the garment of truth and life. Help us to learn to wear your garment, not just to put it on. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
