The Romancer Of The Stone
2/01/2020

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Matthew 7:7-11 KJV
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Christ spoke in many parables. "A romancer is a writer of fictional stories or a writer of romance" according to the Webster Dictionary. "A parable is a fable or allegorical relation or representation of something real in life or nature, from which a moral is drawn for instruction;" according to Webster Dictionary. Christ had a way with words as well as story telling to describe something else in real life or nature. These were perhaps only fictional in nature, but with a strong message. Why would any father give a child a stone one might ask instead of a piece of bread to eat. Bread and a stone could be seen as good gifts. Many things one can do with a stone. One can place another stone upon it, one can build upon it and one can paint it and decorate it. One can eat a piece of bread but it will not last. A stone on the other hand will last unless it made of something that crumbles easily. Lets look at the stone as something solid and something one can add to and keep. Why would any dad give a child a serpent instead of a fish? Perhaps the dad is teaching the child the snake can be tame, but one must always beware of its bite. Where a fish will feed a child meat for a day. I guarantee the snake would never be forgotten as long as they lived.

We ask God for many things, and we seek for Him in our world we live in, and often knock on the door of heaven hoping to know the mystery He has to share with us. God gives to his children good and perfect gifts from above. Yet when he gives a serpent to teach us of danger, or a stone to build upon we need to think for a minute what is God doing. God made that serpent that was in the garden, God gave man a stone to build an altar for sacrifice, as well as to write upon the laws of God. We see Christ our redeemer as being the sacrifice on the cross the protector from the serpents looking like the brozen snake in the wilderness at the time of Moses. Sin bites, but the healing power is Jesus. This is one of those times you going to have to do some home work if you know not the story. Numbers 21 and John 3:14.

The foolish man builds his house upon the sand and a wise man builds his house on a rock. Jesus is consider the foundation stone of faith. Jesus being the word of God who came in the flesh. Jesus being that foundation stone in which faith is built upon and without that solid foundation our faith will crumble. The answer to the orignal question is what Father would give a child a serpent and a stone instead of bread and fish, would be God the Father. Not a hard question but one to dwell for a time. We learn the price of disobedience and we learn the price of obedience to God.

Dear Heavenly Father give us serpents that we will know how to keep their heads from bitting and learn to chop off their heads before they can bite. Lord thank you for the stone which faith in Christ Jesus, our precious redeemer and romancer of faith. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

Matthew 7:24-27 KJV
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
