Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Luke 10:25-37 KJV
(25) And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
(26) He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou?
(27) And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.
(28) And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live.
(29) But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour?
(30) And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
(31) And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
(32) And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
(33) But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
(34) And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
(35) And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
(36) Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
(37) And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

The good Samaritan was one of my favorite stories as a child, perhaps because the stranger stop and cared for another stranger to aid him on the road of life. It spoke to my heart perhaps because two religious leaders seen a need and did nothing but a stranger got the love of God in his heart. How can stranger show more love then those who are suppose to be teaching and obeying God’s law. It called could not break tradition and love of a stranger. A minister back then was not allowed to get near dead bodies. However some of the priesthood were doctors, so it could have been afraid to get involved with whatever happened to the man. could have been no donkey. Jesus only says the priest and the levite passed by on the other side. Whatever the reason by tradition, no donkey to carry the stranger, or did not want to be involved, they ignored the situation.

The stranger a man seeing the injured man, went and put oil in his wounds and brought him to an inn on his donkey. At that inn, he ask for someone to care for the man and paid the man and told him he return in a few days. Healing should not have to come because of a stranger was willing to put a little oil in some wounds and pay the price for it. Healing should not have to come by stranger, but in truth sometimes it takes someone you do not know to help bring healing in one’s life. Someone that knows what to do for the injury because they been there.

Many fire fighters and rescue works continue in that line of work because their families were involved in it. Some join the team because in truth they been there in wreck or a fire. They know what it is to be hurt and in need of help. They do not only want healing, but they want to know how to heal. If you ever been in situation you could not solve, and someone else had the solution you just might ask how to solve it. How to be the healer in a situation and not the problem.

For the good Samaritan he was out cast already, the Priest and Levite walking by only seen and outcast, someone not worth helping. Yet the good Samaritan was the one that brought oil and bandages on the road. He was the one ready and prepared for service and duty to help. Perhaps he carried a standard first aid kit for his travels. Or maybe it something he carried on the road he was able to use for first aid for himself. Yet whatever the reason he seen a need and took it upon himself to solve it. He was the one with compassion. No one else cared, unless they had money. Innkeeper did not refuse the money to help the injured stranger.

It is important to know God is a stranger to us until he reach down to us and speaks to our hearts and mind. He created us before we even knew how to form a thought and to speak. He loved us and formed us and created us in his likeness. He loved us enough to send his only begotten Son in human flesh, to talk to even the outcast of the world. To heal even the outcast of the world and not just the soldiers, and the big whigs like the lawyers and rich men. In all truth without Savior caring for those in need giving oil along the road of life that he minister too while on this earth, one might not ever understand the compassion of God for each of his children. Caring not if you rich or poor, sick or well, but willing to bring healing to the soul and eventually body in his timing and place. The greatest love is to bring oil to someone. To bring it not for anointing and death, but to bring anointing for healing. The anointing of Jesus was for his death but for our healing from our sins.

Dear Heavenly Father bring oil to your people once more for healing in our land and in the lives of the people. Bring your healing touch to ur hearts. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
