Twelve Years Later
12/26/2020

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Luke 2:40-52 KJV
40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

If you watched one of the latest rage of people doing live bioging, some for money and some to educate others on issues of different medical issues, cooking, to selling items and so forth, even to give family members updates about life in general. Very different world we live when camera's in a person home is almost always as acceptable as in a store. I am not in agreement with that yet. Camera's need down time too. There some things that never should be said on camera, or in the hearing of anyone but significant other. There some things that need boundaries, though it is true life. Boundaries we often do not see in the world of society that want to know all, even to the point people stalk stars, video taping on private property without permission, to filming things they think they can sell for money and find it worth millions to nothing at all, because it already been done. Some are bioging to raise public awareness of issues in our world. I think of how many alley cats, and injured puppies I have seen that need good homes, I wonder what if the church world showed how many lost and dying people were going to hell because of no faith, would it move mountains, or only cause the dying to laugh in our faces. The need to document the change Christ makes in a person maybe even more welcoming for today, then the no change without Christ. The documentating the lives of people with Christ and then those without Christ, or verse disobedience to Christ. Truth is to biog it would take a life time, and most do not wish for a camera on them 24/7. To biog how Christ is changing you, is not always about people coming out of the gutter on the street, but sometimes people out of clean house to people on top of the ladder in the business world, it about spiritual changes in one's heart. The crying of grace to that person that one would really like to say or be the opposite of nice. It that change of being polite even when the world says knock them down. It is that change over time, that says Christ in us the hope of glory, the hope of forgiveness and love even when a person deserves it not. It is the change that makes us more like Christ even in our giving.

Christmas is over, and the account of Jesus continues only when it comes to important day in Jesus life of his family going to the Jerusalem to celebrate the passover and feast. Perhaps it is the only biog account in scripture, though there is a book that tells stories of perhaps Jesus early life, but the book was not included in the Bible because of the origin of the book. Even so what do we need to know about Jesus in human form as a child? He was not always doing exactly what he should in regards to not causing Mary and Joseph to worry about his where abouts.This boy Jesus caused his family to go and search for him. Not knowing where he was, they had suspected he had been with the other kids his age, but when it was soon discovered he was not, they had to turn around and go back to Jerusalem. Jesus was found to be sitting and talk to the scribes and religious teachers about the scriptures. What he spoke amazed the religious leaders. Jesus told them he had to be about his Father's business, and they understood him not. Twelver years had past and the miraclous birth about Jesus had been covered up, so to speak. The knowledge of his origin was no longer it seemed talked about. His origin only mentioned at the time of his trial before the religious leaders by one Pharisee, when he ask is Mary your mother. Only then a glimps of the identy and prophesy maybe understood by someone that it was happenin by the scripture prophecy.

Jesus went with his parents and was obedient to them, but his mother ponder these things in her heart. He increase in knowledge and favor with God and man. The humanity of Jesus coming through of his need to grow humanly into being this man Jesus. It had nothing to do with who he was, but body of Jesus had to fit the man Jesus already was. The minute we become born again of God's Spirit, we are a new creation in God's kingdom. Just like every creation, we have develop our christianity as we walk and follow after Christ. As God allows stumbling stones, we learn to avoid or we trip over them in our pathway. As we grow in knowledge of the scriptures and we learn to become obedient to God's word, a work in our life is being done to transform us into the image of God's Son Jesus. We will never be Christ, but we become Christ like as we grow. We are transformed by the renewing of our minds through his word and what goes into our head sooner or later makes it way to our hearts to obedience. We start as new born babies in need first of spiritual milk, meaning God's grace of our human imperfect to be Christlike, to needing meat that can often correct our humanity and feed the soul of the truth of who we are in Christ, and who we ought to be as believers. Meat with seasoning, and not without sauce, but with all the ingredients of the Holy Spirit. For Christmas I got a ham, it was on sale. When the ham was almost done I put the glaze on it. It was one of those Spiral hams with all that was needed to make it a good ham. With that meal was almost complete except for a few side dishes and dessert. Everything was finished right on time even down to the rolls. Those that do not eat ham, pretend it was a roast or a turkey. It matters not. Anyway the meal without other things made the meal incomplete. I left off the dessert of apple pie. Did not get it made. I glad when God prepares a meal he includes the apple pie, and all the side dishes, and meat to make a delicious meal. We need all for fuel for our soul.

I heard preachers preach only evanglistic messages that would starve a well seasoned Bible scholar and I heard sermons that would feed the soul of both the babies in the church to the seasoned soldier of Christ. I ask where did the evangelist go wrong, did he forget that all need saving, all need hope and love in the storms, small size for the nature hikes, and regular size serving for the journey road in life. We need the hikers back pack fill with trail mix, with the super size compassion in the storm, to the protein and vegetables for the road in life, let us not forget apple pie for dessert. We need the love and sugar to carry us to the next meal time. Look for a church that feeds those in need of Christ, the soul already on the journey, and the one that gone astray that needs love and compassion, with the knowledge that people are people inside the walls of the church, growing into the body of Christ. Christ had to grow too, what does that say about us as believers. If the boy Jesus had been a man, before the shoes fit, would people had listened or would they have told him to sit in a corner. We can not rush God's growing season, though science would try and rush the growing season of crops, not understanding there is a reason it takes a tomato so many days to ripen on a vine, it still does not make the tomato as juicy or as equally tasty as the one that slowly ripened. Be patient in what God wants to do in the lives of individuals, stop rushing it. God is molding his people.

Dear heavenly Father, help us to grow as Christ grew, to fit the shoes you have already provide as being your child. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Ephesians 4:12-32 KJV
12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind,
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
20 But ye have not so learned Christ;
21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus:
22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;
23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;
24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
25 Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.
26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
27 Neither give place to the devil.
28 Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.
29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.
