Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

1 Thessalonians 3:1-13 KJV
(1) Wherefore when we could no longer forbear, we thought it good to be left at Athens alone;
(2) And sent Timotheus, our brother, and minister of God, and our fellowlabourer in the gospel of Christ, to establish you, and to comfort you concerning your faith:
(3) That no man should be moved by these afflictions: for yourselves know that we are appointed thereunto.
(4) For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.
(5) For this cause, when I could no longer forbear, I sent to know your faith, lest by some means the tempter have tempted you, and our labour be in vain.
(6) But now when Timotheus came from you unto us, and brought us good tidings of your faith and charity, and that ye have good remembrance of us always, desiring greatly to see us, as we also to see you:
(7) Therefore, brethren, we were comforted over you in all our affliction and distress by your faith:
(8) For now we live, if ye stand fast in the Lord.
(9) For what thanks can we render to God again for you, for all the joy wherewith we joy for your sakes before our God;
(10) Night and day praying exceedingly that we might see your face, and might perfect that which is lacking in your faith?
(11) Now God himself and our Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, direct our way unto you.
(12) And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
(13) To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

What is forbearance? To tolerate or to put up with a situation. In ministry it be to put up with being in the wilderness or being in a place where people do not want to listen. Very little spiritual growth is happening. Nothing seems to be happening. Persecution maybe going on but it not always physical kind. As Noah built an ark no doubt there were people that made fun of his building. Yet on the day of the flood the wails of the people screamed for deliverance. Paul was in in Athens and there are people we are to witness too. With little positive out come Paul had to leave Athens for a time.

Paul at the end of the chapter realize those he taught need him not, but the fellowship still would have been sweet among his brethren. See there time of revival and time of wilderness. Time to preach and time to see the labor of your work. What is our work in the church and what is our work vs. God’s work? One might only need God to teach, but people do fall away from the faith sometimes. Sometimes not from God or Christ, but from fellowship. If you ever spend time with old people one of there concerns is their relationship with Christ is Church attendance. The problem comes what if I miss a service or I am to sick to go does God still love me. Seasons Christians know the answer that Jesus still loves them. Those not to season rely on church attendance at least effecting their salvation sometimes. Salvation is based on faith not being attached to a group of people.

Paul found himself in need of seeing the people he once help to know they were continuing on well. That the labor of the Gospel was not in vain. When we labor for God we really do not know how things will work out for others. Only know our faith must stand.

Dear Heavenly Father let us not worry so much about others will think but continue on in saving grace. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:1 Corinthians 3:5-11 KJV
(5) Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?
(6) I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
(7) So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
(8) Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
(9) For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building.
(10) According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
(11) For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
