Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 2:40-52 KJV
(40) And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.
(41) Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.
(42) And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.
(43) And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.
(44) But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
(45) And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.
(46) And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.
(47) And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.
(48) And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.
(49) And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?
(50) And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.
(51) And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.
(52) And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. |
Going about my Heavenly Father’s business, would be what any minister can say. Yet Jesus makes it clear even at the early age of twelve. Twelve for a child of Israel was consider a young adult though still a child. Jesus grew up in Nazareth as soon as it was safe to return from Egypt. God spoke to Joseph once more and return to the land of Galilee. Parts of this story found in Matthew 2. Anyway Jesus went about His Heavenly Father’s business and remain in the temple. Yet his disappearance concerned his earthly parents so much they went in search for him, for they had gone with their people homeward expecting him to be with others his age. Never thinking he be any other place. Now as they go back they enter the temple only to find him sitting and talking to the scribes. Jesus reply could be taken as joking, or sass in our world today. Yet was it at the time of Jesus? Probably nothing said because He was in God’s house, the place he needed to be.
Ministers whether teachers, preachers, helpers, deacons, leaders and so forth time is spent doing their heavenly Father business. Heavenly Father meaning God the Father. Every born again Christian is a minister and not all living up to their full potential. It okay, God is using everything for when we are. Jesus was growing has a human being so he fully spiritually who He is, but not humanly physically ready to be a minister. Young Christians begin their training from the time they first believe, in some circles it called the school of the Holy Ghost. Yet it a schooling and a training only God’s Spirit can give. A teacher and minister can expound on the things of God and teach another what they know themselves, but there some things only God himself can teach. God the Father teaches each of His children when to obey and when to listen. When to follow and when to be still. Not all learn with the grace but sometimes a hickory switch. Sometimes with love and sometimes love hurts. God’s correction can be painful, but it is never forgotten.
Dear Heavenly Father move in the hearts of your children teaching them to observe all things you teach them through your word. Show your people continually your Spirit power to change the world for you. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: 1 John 2:27 KJV
(27) But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him. |
