The keepsakes we cherish over a life time seems small and sometimes larger then we truly have space for. I am pretty sure I have a box somewhere in my house with a small collection of things that had meaning to me as a child. Yet not one toy is among the items that I kept. In fact the items in the box as no value but to me. It kind of strange the items I kept. One was a rock I painted at camp and another item was a small instrument called a recorder, that may have a little value, because they do not make them that way anymore. However the point is this box contains odds and ends of the past, but took very little room to store. With moving and getting rid of larger items was necessary for space. Yet when I think back, perhaps these small memories take me back to another time or place in my head and heart.
Mary had stories she would know by heart, and would keep these things for future generation to share with their children and friends. The shepherds heard the stories and passed them on because of the joyful news that a Savior had been born. Nothing with treasuring something and keeping it in one’s heart, but at some point one needs to share the message of Christ if you received the good news about Jesus. We need to be like Mary as she ponder these things and kept them in her heart, yet we need to be like the shepherds going to and fro in their tending of the sheep telling the story of their Savior birth. Will you be like shepherd and Mary. Will you treasure this Christmas the story of the birth of Jesus. Will you pass it on.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the birth of your Son help us pass it on. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
