Sacrifice To Fulfill Prophesy 12/23/2016
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisMatthew 2:16-23 KJV
(16) Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.
(17) Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying,
(18) In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not.
(19) But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt,
(20) Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child's life.
(21) And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
(22) But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a dream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:
(23) And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

Where is Rama but in Palestine. The children of Rachel would of meant children of Jacob’s wife Rachel. Rachel died giving birth to Benjamin the youngest of the tribe of Jacob. Joseph being the next youngest among some others. Jews lived among the gentiles. The baby boys that were killed would have been Jewish. Not the first time in history that government sought the lives the Hebrew people. Time of Egyptians at the beginning of the plan for the Exodus of God’s people, the Egyptians Pharaoh killed the babies. Yet it more then about killing of the young. King Herod seen his thrown being threaten by a King chosen by the one true God.
The devil has always been threat by the thought of God’s choice for king being in power. When God’s choice for king is in power, God is going to defeat the enemy for a time. When God allows the devil in power, it only for a short time, to straighten the reason for his power. As the story goes the sacrifice of the innocent happened, but Joseph, Mary and Jesus escaped into Egypt. This was God’s divine protection for his Son. Yet why would God not protect the children of his people? The answer is not clear, but the fact is it fulfilled prophesy that Rachel would weep for her children.
To fulfill prophesy death had to occur? Not necessarily, it did not happen every time. This was making a point of God calling out his Son, Jesus when it was safe again. God will return His Son when the time is right. Not before. Our Savior will return not in our time frame, but God’s perfect will for the world.
Dear Heavenly Father as we wait for your dear Son, we wait knowing His return is eminent. The time table preset by you, and the hour unknown to man. Help us to hold ot the hope of faith of Christ return. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Acts 1:7 KJV
