The Joy That Follows Sorrow
12/22/2016

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

John 16:19-22 KJV
(19) Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
(20) Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
(21) A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
(22) And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

The worse thing I ever seen when it came to sorrow was the joy of insurance money that followed after a death. Insurance was for the putting away of a life, but it also brought abundance of hope to a family. In one way it moved a family from their debit to financial freedom and to be able to be revived for a time once more. Yet the thought of a death bringing insurance, is a hard pill to swallow when it comes to life most painful woes. Christ death brought us insurance with His resurrection. With that his death and resurrection brought sweet joy and peace to all mankind.

The pain of child birth is only for a time of pain without medical drugs of the modern world. It last only for a time, and the joy of birth comes as the life of a baby wails out as it is delivered. The baby greeting the world with screams of fear, only to soon quiet with the comfort of arms around him or her. The swaddling of the child putting in the loving arms of the mother, who only wants to protect her new born.

Our sorrow is turned to joy with the resurrection. The church of Christ mourning at his death. The women and disciples around the cross as as the earthquake converts to faith that Jesus must be the Son of God. Yet their sorrow being great they could not bring his lifeless body back from death. Burying Jesus without the insurance of hope of the resurrection they went to the upper room. As the women followed tradition of preparing the body for decay, they discovered an empty tomb. Mary Magdalene wept at the tomb not knowing where her Lord had been taken. A man asked her why she was crying and in her grief she realize this man was her Lord risen from the grave. Her joy rising in her soul that resurrection mourn as the first of the church began to be born again with the resurrection. The church knowing the sorrow of death only to taste the insurance of the resurrection. The insurance that would pay the price for their sins and give the hope of eternity with God. The joy of the church coming as a woman giving birth or the elation of insurance money after a death of a love one, the price is paid for our final expenses of the price of sin, no longer fearing the cost of death which is eternity in fire a pit .

Where is your joy this season as we celebrate the birth of life of our Savior, who would one day pay the price of our sin and our insurance of eternal life with Him in Heaven? Where is your hope this season. Where is your joy this Christmas. May it rest in belief of our Savior’s birth, death and resurrection.

Dear Heavenly Father give us the joy of Christmas in our hearts as we accept the truth of the salvation through your Son Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

(18) Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
(19) But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
