Time Of Christ: Doubting 12/17/2016
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJohn 20:24-31 KJV
(24) But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
(25) The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.
(26) And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
(27) Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
(28) And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
(29) Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
(30) And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
(31) But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. |
Are you doubting your faith this morning. I think one of the hardest things people have in choosing any faith is the lack of evidence or proof that can be done through deception. In a modern world the story of Thomas is not enough evidence for the average person, it only a testimony of proof of Christ death and resurrection. People are quickly turned away with stories of a tomb marked with Jesus name, along with some of the other disciples. Yet based on Biblical account the tomb would have had to been outside of Jerusalem and not in Jerusalem. The tomb in Israel is inside the holy city. How do you combat something with evidence to contrary of to Christian beliefs. It is the map of faith.
What is the map of faith but the hidden keys in scripture to location and place of known facts that make it truth about the Messiah. To ignore these keys is to ignore truth. Thomas always was about seeking truth in some of his line of questioning as well as evidence. He was known for need for evidence. This story portrays the need for the evidence of the nail scarred hands. Jesus appears to the disciples in Thomas presence showing him the evidence He had risen from the grave.
Today people claim ghost haunt their houses, businesss and so forth, thinking this is evidence of life after death. Many of these things can be disproved as being a hoax of some sort. Yet these hoaxes are often profitable to some people. Jesus resurrection had a body, He was more then apparitions. His body did not remain in the tomb. Jesus is said to have resurrected body, but the evidence that it was Jesus was the holes in his hand. John in Revelations had the appearance of the resurrected Lord, with the appearance of age.
Yet visions do not make it so to skeptics. With that thought in mind how will you know that reality of Jesus. The truth of what He teaches should be enough, but the world even teaches what Jesus did. It must be miracles, but with every miracle there is a search for evidence of medical possibility. What is the evidence then, perhaps it is the calming of the storms or the passage of time of prophecy in one’s life. Maybe it like the journey of Jacob for he would not serve God until God brought him back to Bethel. Thomas need the nail prints in Christ’s hands. What do you need. What will you ask God for, to enable you to help your unbelief. It might need to be more then a mountain moving, or simple earthquake. Yet if I was a doubter I ask God for something that would seal it in my heart to last the time of my life on earth in this day and age. Asking God to take away your doubt is not a sin. Many asked God to take away their doubts. Part of the way God made us is to be skeptics of the world around us. Without skepticism no one would event, research or have any proof of truth. Inquiry minds want evidence. Well I can not produce Jesus, that for God to decide when. However I can tell you ask of God to clear your doubts open your heart to the truth of who Jesus is.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the evidence in your word of the fact Jesus is the Messiah. Please Lord convince those who desire to know truth of your reality today. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: John's Testimony: Revelation 1:12-17 KJV
(12) And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks;
(13) And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle.
(14) His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
(15) And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
(16) And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength.
(17) And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: |
