Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisMatthew 2:3-10 KJV (3) When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
(4) And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
(5) And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
(6) And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.
(7) Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
(8) And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
(9) When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
(10) When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

Once when my husband had to go out of town, I laid my glass down after a very long evening, only to forget where, that was how tired I was. I went around the house hunting for them, Even cleaning from one end of the house to the other in search of them. I was so exhausted I finally went to bed and said in the morning I will find them. In the morning I woke and found and old pair of glass to help in my search. Right there on my husband desk was my glasses. Where I had laid them, where I had made a phone call. Only with open eyes could I with old glasses and no longer tired eyes, I could find what I was looking for. The other day I find myself searching through scripture to see a verse in scripture that I passed while working on an devotions. No clue where I seen this verse but I went in search of it, to make sure I understood the context of verse.
The story of the impeding birth of Jesus was and is importance. The story of Christ being prophesied about in scripture. Some people not understand the prophetic significance to the time frame of scripture of when the Messiah would be born is more disturbing then the wise men coming in search of what they did not understand. All the wise men knew is that a star had appeared and they were following it in search of a new king. Yet Israel religious leaders knew the time period and place but not the date, time or exact location. A day hear or there depending on the accuracy of scriptural time table. The calendar of the heathens being different then the Roman calendar of that day. If using a Hebrew calendar not clue in accuracy of missing a day from the exile of Israel and Judah to the return. Exact information being perhaps lost or off by a day or two. Daniel tells the exact time period the Messiah would come. Had the religious counted not only Isaiah timetable and matched it with Daniel. Had the years been counted and where the religious leaders in search of what they did not fully understand.. What we do know is the religious leaders did understand where the child should be born. After all kings of Israel would come from Judah and the city of David.
After the discussion of where the child would be born, the king decreed for the wise men to go in search for what they knew not. The search the heavens had already instructed them to go looking for this king. King Herod himself want to know, because he said he wanted to worship this king. God had declared even to the rulers of the land a king was going to be born. Two things for sure and two things for certain God wanted people to know of His Son’s arrival. He even left a map religious leaders and unbelievers could follow. The map for the wise men was by the use of nature and God’s declaration of the Messiah. The religious leaders now wondering about these things, but not going in search of this information.
A good minister can tell you how to find Jesus, but he can not lead you in search of the Messiah. The Messiah must be search out by individuals. One can read the entire Bible, but miss the Messiah. Miss the Messiah from Old to New and into our future. Yet a minister is able to highlight the truth of prophesy to the heathens. The word of prophesy maybe the deciding factor on whther Jesus is the Messiah to the none believer. Yet the message of Jesus must be taught, but it is the belief of the individual that will cause one to believe. A teacher can only lead a person to the word, but they can not make a person believe.
Dear heavenly Father may those in search of truth find the prophesy of Jesus being true, to help their unbelief. Help the teachers lead them in the knowledge of truth. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Isaiah 60:1-7 KJV

(5) Then thou shalt see, and flow together, and thine heart shall fear, and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea shall be converted unto thee, the forces of the Gentiles shall come unto thee.
(6) The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall shew forth the praises of the LORD.
(7) All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory. |
