Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Matthew 2:1-2 KJV
(1) Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
(2) Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

Balaam a false prophet of God was used by God to declare of the coming Messiah to the gentile people who worshipped strange gods, over four thousand years before Christ. This journey being at the time of Moses in the wilderness. There are many good ministers and teachers that fall away to be brought back. Balaam did he ever have faith in God? The question is not easy to answer. He understood as a false prophet he still had to submit to God. It is a sign of his own rebellious nature against God, because he recognized his need to obey, despite his ability or desire to do so.

The compelling of God’s Spirit against one’s own will, one must ask, why does God do this when freedom to worship and obey him as always part of the believers life. Not all believers are of God in the since of a desire to obey God. The devil believes, but his own actions are against God, despite there times he too must obey God. Worship and obedience to God must come with a desire to obey.

Rebellion is part of human nature since the time of Adam being created. Yet it always been a choice. Rebellion against what we know to be wholesome is only for a moment if our true nature is to serve God. Devil believes, trembles and obeys but faces eternity in the lake of fire. The reason being his nature is evil. Isaac had two sons. One would choose evil and other would choose good. The very thought of this is only the point that Jacob desired to serve God and yet he also went through his own rebellion against God. One might not be ready to serve God when we are called. Yet it is when all is said and done with preparation for the call of God comes are we choosing God or rebellion against God for his will is not our will. Can we say I surrender to God or are we continue in our war against God almighty. Moses did not go in the promise land because of his rebellion of hitting a rock twice instead of once. He is seen going and living among a gentile tribe. Did Moses rebellion continue without entering into the promise land or a submissive act of not entering in obedience to God? We know Moses stood before Christ during the transfiguration. Moses had except his punishment but it did not remove his relationship he had with God from him.

Let us get back to point, the choice of obedience and worshipping of God is only a choice. The falling of a star a choice or curiosity or a little of both. The wise men true nature to worship the king is clearly seen, but God was his handiwork to proclaim his son’s birth to a nation to a people that study astrology, That believed in the signs of the stars. The wise men would choose to obey God rather then man, when it came to a dream they would have. Yet right now they are stuck at the palace looking for a new king that was not there. The wise men following a star by choice, would soon have an encounter with God through a warning in a dream. Propelled by God’s power to a place that God’s king live not.

God’s kingdom is not built with human hands, it built with God’s will. When God’s will is in action and people are able to see it, then they able to believe in a living God. Prophesy must not only be a forecast of truth, but must come by the power and Spirit of God, to warn, to forecast, to teach, and to preach only to speak to the human heart and mind the truth of God. As we journey with the wise men the obedience changes from seeking by astrology but turning to listen to and obey God rather then man. We can ignore that even the devil obeys God, but perhaps there was a change in the wise men’s heart.

Dear Heavenly Father change your people by events they freely see in the world, through prophesy and in ways they themselves can only understand. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

(15) And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:
(16) He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
(17) I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
