There always interesting tibbits in scripture that can not be ignored. The Priest was aware of the blessed virgin. In Mark 14 verse 62 copied at the bottom of the lesson states at the time of the crucifixion during the trial the priest asked if he was the son of the blessed. This implied Mary. Now why would be important for the priesthood to know this information. Mary would have been brought to the sanctuary of the temple and put on trial perhaps. Not sure if the law of conception out of wedlock was still in place. Yet what would happen if a women was found carrying a child out of wedlock, she would be made to drink bitter water which actual was water with a mixture that would declare if she was pregnant because of being unfaithful to her betroth. This liquid drank would either kill her and the baby or the baby. Then she would be stoned if found guilty.
Now how much Mary endured before Joseph took her to be his wife, we do not know. Yet we do know according to Matthew account she was found to with child of the Holy Ghost. Now this is important. It probably was a little more then verbal authorization. Even with Elizabeth declaration and Zacharias having spiritual knowledge of the events unfolding. This would of taken place in Mary town and Joseph not wishing to make her a public example, perhaps would of consulted privately the priesthood of what could be done or even oppositions.
Mary is found to be with a child of the Holy Ghost. Imagine Mary explaining what happened to the Priesthood. Going through the humiliation of their reaction. Yet Joseph being a Just man would of seek how to put her away privately. Imagine those hormones raging of Mary. How she keep from speaking her mind will be far from me to understand. Yet those that know the story know there is more to the story, yet this is where we finish it today. The point I making further in scripture the issue of the blessed mother comes in to question of Jesus identity. Meaning there was knowledge among the Jewish people of these things that we take for granted every year.
Is the evidence of the virgin concept lost at the betroth? No it should not be but for skeptics the evidence of it being mention before Jesus death on the cross is fascinating. No where else is it brought up during Jesus life time. This is identifier, that Jesus was the one being crucified for our sins. Necessary for evident record that is recorded. Evidence that the Messiah the virgin born was lead like a sheep to the slaughter. Lead to the cross for our sins.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for evidence beyond the beginning of Mary conception to demonstrate to the world your power. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
