Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Luke 1:39-56 KJV
(39) And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;
(40) And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.
(41) And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
(42) And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
(43) And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
(44) For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
(45) And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
(46) And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
(47) And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
(48) For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
(49) For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.
(50) And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.
(51) He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
(52) He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.
(53) He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.
(54) He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;
(55) As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.
(56) And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.

I can not think of anyone calmly walking to their cousin house with the hope to find their cousin pregnant after an angel told them of their own baby‘s conception by the Holy Ghost. Instead I see a young Mary excited running into the hill country. How long it took I do not know, but I say it took less time then it ever did before. If Mary did walk normal speed it would only be to think on the things the angel had told her about her own baby’s conception of being chosen to carry the Messiah.

As Christmas fast approaches are we carrying the message told to us of Jesus’ birth to our family and friends. Are we doing it so speedily? Even if we carry the message are they listening. The truth of the matter can we get the message of Christ’s birth to those lost from the knowledge of Christ this season. It not enough to put up a nativity. It only the beginning of sharing the message of Christ.

Who were the first people to tell about the coming Messiah at the time of Messiah coming, it was the angel, and the women. Zacharias would be the first male to tell as soon as his mouth was opened after his own son’s birth. One might ask why did the women so easily believed. Apparently Zacharias had communicated to his wife of the special ness of her own pregnancy. Yet Zacharias still could not talk. Elizabeth was almost ready to have the baby when Mary came to see her. Mary only remain three months. Yet it would be Elizabeth greeting that no doubt would confirm to Mary about the child she was carrying was truly the Messiah.

The confirmation that Jesus is the Messiah can be found through out the ancient prophecies before Christ. His linage being part of the proof as long as the names given him and description of who He was and is to be. Not all the prophesies of Christ been fulfilled. What has not been given is Christ return or the appearance of the warrior king. We wait today for His return, for God’s wrath to come to the unbeliever. Yet our prayers need to be that those lost will be saved. That the lost from the message of Christ will hear and believe. That they will not have doubt of the truth of the message of Jesus.

The joy and elation expressed by Elizabeth was of the anointing of the Holy Spirit. It was not enough just to hear but to see Elizabeth was pregnant with the forerunner of Jesus. Elizabeth confirmed that Mary was carrying the child of the Holy Ghost by her words. Words spoken by the Spirit of God through her. Another sign that the Holy Spirit did not just fill the men but also the women. The Holy Spirit had filled the baby in Elizabeth women and he leap with joy at the knowledge of Mary presence and the baby within Mary’s womb. Let us share the joy of Christmas and greet others with the love of Christ.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to share your love this Christmas with the joy of the blessed remind of our Savior birthday. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:1 Peter 1:8-12 KJV
(8) Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
(9) Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
(10) Of which salvation the prophets have enquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you:
(11) Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow.
(12) Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into.
