Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris2 Timothy 3:1-17 KJV
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.
10 But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
11 Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
I believe Paul had a reason beyond his encounter on the road to Damacus of teaching the Gospel of Jesus. He had a reason because he loved the truth of the Gospel, he did not like untruths of scripture or the ministers that were lover of themselves, more then God. He was warning Timothy of evil men that would corrupt the Gospel for their own selfish desires. I for one can understand Paul attitude and warning as he writes Timothy.
I want to share the reason why I began to write and perhaps could not stop for a time. I heard so much false doctrines in one church to last me a life time of never wanting to hear that again. I also heard a man preach suicide. Alot of people in false groups, false religion teach suicide, the true doctrine of faith is to trust in God and his will for your life. If you given your life to God, he should be the one to take you out, not your own hand. I never believed in killing oneself, but I even know military has taught this when someone caught in a bad situation. What is government is not faith. I even heard people say just go kill yourself to others and most never think about, but the truth of the matter is it is words never to be used, many use it as scare tactic. Trying to make someone fight for life. Yet there people that die everyday because that was the last words that crushed their spirit for living. To hear it come across a pulpit was like fire in my soul, made me so angry all I could do was pray for those in the church at that time that heard it.
All I could think was I am glad I knew scripture and I knew my Bible in that situation. It is happening in more then one place, the appearance of godliness and even magical arts of Jannes and Jambres who by history were the names of two magicians at the time of the Pharaoh in Egypt at the time of Moses. It is not recorded in scripture but passed through the Priesthood and Talmudist. I even once taught how some magicians could imitate the things Aaron did. However the more plagues that came they could not copy them all or desire too. When talking of Pentecostal and Charimatic movement there is some fakery that is easily present no matter how sincere people are for Christ. When in those situations it wise to pray for discernment so you know that difference, to allow God to move in your life for his glory and honor. Despite the sin of others do not be a part of their charalatan act because it plays on the emotions and mental health of people.
Extraordinary things do happen as a child of God but not everything one witness is of God. Not everything felt, experienced is of God. What do you base your faith on? Do you base it on how you feel? Feelings come and go. Do you base it on how blessed you are? Some are blessed even in a poor house. Not everyone in scripture was kings, preachers, or rich. Okay now do you base it on love, hope an faith. Love is normally consider an emotion, but it is also described as God who is describe as a person. Hope is dreams not yet fully realized or come to pass. and Faith is the things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen(Hebrews 11:1). Faith can be built on passed testimony and evidence of past facts. Most of scripture today is no longer a fact in our world without new testimony. Why because simply I can not says that Jesus healed, beyond evidence in scripture I believe Jesus stills heals because of my own testimony. Was there was really a man name Job whose faith was on trial. I can not prove that a fish God prepared swallowed Jonah and so forth. I can not prove seven plagues happened why because I not scientist. What I can prove is the God of Bible left behind a story that changed the lives of those who had faith and that those that continue to believe in Jesus and God will have a life that is changed forever once believing, if they will hold to the truth of His word and not fall into the ways of evil doers and believers of lies.
If Scripture is the only words you have to defend truth that good enough for the believer, the evidence comes through the fruit and production of the Spirit of God. Fruit of love, hope, faith, longsuffering, gentleness and so forth. Which scripture does teach an those who abide by it live a much happier productive life then those that do not. It does not mean horrors don't happen in life, or the journey of life is not hard, it only means God is presence to strengthen to under take and to enable you through out the journey. The word of God is more precious then you can imagine, but it needs to be understood, applied and practice. Guess we all are learning and no one has it perfected but God. The works of God follows a believer.
Make sure your faith is you own, not the minister or even your church. False teachers do slip in. To know that Bible is to understand the truth and to spiritual grow in Christ the word of God. Know Jesus personally as Savior and Lord when you invite him into your heart. I do alot of cross reference through using a Bible search, because I had years of practice, but a good reference Bible is very useful. Why because scripture often is reference from other places. The more you understand those reference you understand what the Bible verse is talking about. If I reference Shakespeare, a old movie we all seen would you understand the metaphoric use of these things, only if you read or watch Shakespear or old movie. If you know it a reference to something else and understand that reference you understand perhaps what else is being said.
Jesus talked about the ark concerning last days in the New Testament, but how many grasp when the door was shut no one else was saved, Yet how long did it take water to recede enough for Noah to land on Mount Ararat? See Mount Ararat is the highest mountain in world. That means all land was covered. You can not swim for a hundred days and survive. Men have tried to swim in water tanks to cool off only to drown when water begins to flow into the water tank, The tank to deep to reach the original ladder that was use to climb down by the person, who thought they would be able to climb back up out of the tank, never thinking on the length of time it took to fill back up or the pressure of the water that was filling the tank. The flood was much worse and took over nighty days of steady down pour. God's protection in the storm saved Noah and his family.
Jesus says to believe in him, to trust him, and God will protect. Trust in the word of God, trust in Christ who came in the flesh, God will give you the Holy Spirit whom you are to trust in as well as to guide you in all truths and discernments. Do not worry if you make a mistake God will teach you that too. Either be ready to study learn and grow or sit on the sidelines while others do.
Dear Heavenly Father, continue to teach your people to trust, to study to grow by both your word and Spirit that you gave your children to help them in their faith. To know Jesus saves us from our sin and the hope is worth the wait and that you will be glorified and worshipped. In Jesus precious name Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 11:1-7 KJV
1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.
5 By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
