Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

1 Timothy 4:1-16 KJV
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
11 These things command and teach.
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Who are these that depart from faith in Christ Jesus? I was thinking on this when I reminded that in Jude 1:24 says, "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy". The one's that depart from the faith probably were one's that never received Christ as Lord, instead of yielding to faith in Christ they were chasing after maybe emotion, a desire, something that sounded good but is not doctrine of true faith. It may of been a desire or something that appealed to their own code of ethics. For example some choosing a vegeterian life style may do so for health reason or religious purposes. Some will even refrain from certain types of meat but still eat some meat. They do so not because of health, but religion or a group that practice this way of living.

My husband a diabetic would consider everything he likes or enjoys healthy despite the doctors value of a diet. I on the other hand do my best to structure his diet around what is healthy and often fail, because I not the one in the kitchen cooking always. There is a point there is times when diets are fine and there time when restraining from eating what prepared and set before you is not benefical to your health in general. Those that are missionaries know that often you eat what is presented just for the sake of keeping in one accord with those serving the meal. However sometimes you are blessed with a delicious meal, and not one that is totally not appealing to your palette. Paul reminding Timothy not to worry about what is set before him, if those he is eating with are eating that which is on the plate, I guarantee it safe enough for you to consume. There is no meat unclean or unhealthy to eat out there. If you went by Old Testament law some meat was forbidden for the sole purpose of how the meat was prepared and taken care of. Some meat must go through not only a process, but cooked for a certain time frame before it is safe to eat. Lobsters one can not eat without them being boiled alive. Yet when they are cooked they are said to be quite tasty.

These bad groups may even forbid marriage, or any social custom that is normal for area. Meaning forbidden to marry is not of God. Yet there were Eunuchs by choice and Eunuchs by birth. God created marriage so that one could have mate or helper in life. We have to study scripture from beginning to end and see exactly what God implies to all people, before separating ourselves from these things God has called good and food should be received with Thanksgiving. For these things are sanctified by the word and prayer. Give thanks for what God has ordain for man and given man.

You be nourished up in faith, trusting in faith in Christ Jesus, but no only that putting away old wives tales or untruths. Standing in the solid doctrines of faith in Christ Jesus. Bodily exercise profits little? How many would agree with the point exercise seems to help very little. I been on an exercise routine for four years plus and I can honestly say it helps and also does not helped. In general it helps me become stronger, yet my body is made to pass away in regards to it falling apart as I get older like most people my age. We begin to feel the signs of aging around fifty and sometimes earlier, but it only a reminder how much time is truly left to get all the things done we want to do. Exercise to improve general health and muscle movement and forget the fact that your body is aging and really will not be improved beyond its physical ability to do so with exercise. Do I get paid for working out, I did for a while, free tootsie rolls, pizza, t-shirts and so forth. However it not often now with cov-19 to see rewards for working out. Not complaining mind you. Most time no one is paid for working out. There is no profit in it, except to improve muscles and coordination.

Paul does not stop there with young Timothy but reminds him to set an example to the believers despite that he is very young. It does not matter you physical age, or your spiritual age, you can set the example of faith in words and in conversation. When was the last good wholesome conversation you had with someone. More then a greating but just about life and keeping the conversation clean.

What about using those gifts God has given you to minister to others, whether it is preaching, teaching, praying for others, helping, showing compassion, encourager and so forth. Are you obeying the Spirit of God in the work he has called you too, in ministering to others? All these things are part of good ministry and faith and personal walking with Jesus. Learning to do those things that are part of just being a friend, a neighbor and even a good samaritan at times. Yes we did part of this chapter recently, but we finishing I Timothy up this week. Not missing one chapter because it was recent. We all need reminding about the simplest action is part of faith, even when it comes to food, work, spending time with others.

Dear Heavenly Father, help us to live according to your word, sharing your love with others, and walking after Spirit in our daily life not just in ministry. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 1 Timothy 6:11-12 KJV
11 But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.
12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.
