You Want A Church Position?
08/22/2021

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

1 Timothy 3:1-16 KJV
1 This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
8 Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
11 Even so must their wives be grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.
12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.
13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
14 These things write I unto thee, hoping to come unto thee shortly:
15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

If I could tell anyone anything about church position, I say only take it if that how the Lord is leading because otherwise it will be a disaster. One church leadership should never be decided by one person or only one little board, it truly needs to be a decision based on one's ability and not on one ability to be a dictator. What makes a good minister is one that does not mind serving others as well as serving their church in different areas of the church. On clean up week in a church even the pastor, deacons, the elders, the children and the adults have a place to help. Who is the minister of the church those that are saved, those that are members of the church and those that are participants in the church as well as outside the church reaching out to others and helping to build the church body of believers. Yet there is one minister that chief among all ministers the bishop/clergy/pastor of the church. That pastor needs to be a well discipline man in life style according to scripture. A man that has only one way and knows how to control his children. I often think Paul should of told Timothy young children, because once a child leaves the nest/home so to speak, they either govern themselves or their spouse if married is perhaps the one in charge of certain things. Children can not serve God, there earthly dad and husband/wife in obedience if they not always in unison. The person that going to be left behind is probably dear old dad/mom if one loves their spouse. Does not mean you do not care for parents, it means there is a new pecking order of who in charge. Hopefully God never loose his position as first. In the church they can expect a pastor to have control or respect of his family. Children will be children and the church can't expect anything less from the pastor's family in that regard. How they parent to bring about correction, teaching love and compassion to there children will way in on how they deal with people in general. When choosing a pastor how does he deal with his own children. How does he live his life one of faith, or relying on a lottery ticket to make ends meet? Living as a harlot to God by going after the things of this world that have no value. There nothing wrong with a pastor owning a sports car, and a fancy one at that, but there is a problem when his children are begging bread, and a more economic car would of solved that issue, and the congregation is starving because the pastor is out crusing around town and not working on a sermon, but picking up ever stray cat in the neighbor and taking them home but not to church.

Deacon he still learning but does he give to charity, does he help others already, does he serve without being asked to serve. You want men and women that really are willing to serve without even being asked to serve, to do to help and aid others in their church to have those positions of leadership, but one thing that must have happened is a decision of faith, a life style of Christian discipline and living unto the Lord. You give position to a thief he take advantage of wealthy and get rid of the poor. You want someone that will care for the people no matter who they are. Not treating anyone as outcast.

The church needs leaders ground in truth and in faith, Whether deacon or the pastor. Remember even Jesus was approved worthy to hold his position as Son of God, for this works, for his obedience to his Father. Or lets quote the last verse "God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory". God being Christ in this quote of scripture. Paul doesn't appear hear to talk about Christ equality with God but it seen here. Remember Timothy is a student and son under Paul. Though he not biologically kin. He does not need to speak of Christ equality to God beyond the simple phrase God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit. Paul as no need to speak of all that seen Christ but he makes note of the angels/ministers, gentile, believed by the world and even received up into glory. The testimony of who Christ is, who God is and who the Holy Spirit must be manifested in a pastor, and deacons life within and outside the church. They need to be assure of who they teach and minister about. It not just about demonstrating compassion to others, keeping control in difficult situations or being able to problem solve between members. It standing on a firm foundation of faith in God/Christ Jesus. Knowing their oneness, their uniqueness in position and their sovernity of design.

Dear Heavenly Father choose people worthy of the calling of pastors and deacons as well as other church positions. Help them to serve in disciple of Christian faith believe in fullness of the Godhead bodily, knowing your will is the important part of the church. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Titus 1:5-9 KJV
5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:
6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
