Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

2 Samuel 4:4 KJV
4 And Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son that was lame of his feet. He was five years old when the tidings came of Saul and Jonathan out of Jezreel, and his nurse took him up, and fled: and it came to pass, as she made haste to flee, that he fell, and became lame. And his name was Mephibosheth.

2 Samuel 9:6-13 KJV
6 Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, was come unto David, he fell on his face, and did reverence. And David said, Mephibosheth. And he answered, Behold thy servant!
7 And David said unto him, Fear not: for I will surely shew thee kindness for Jonathan thy father's sake, and will restore thee all the land of Saul thy father; and thou shalt eat bread at my table continually.
8 And he bowed himself, and said, What is thy servant, that thou shouldest look upon such a dead dog as I am?
9 Then the king called to Ziba, Saul's servant, and said unto him, I have given unto thy master's son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house.
10 Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master's son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master's son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
11 Then said Ziba unto the king, According to all that my lord the king hath commanded his servant, so shall thy servant do. As for Mephibosheth, said the king, he shall eat at my table, as one of the king's sons.
12 And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micha. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants unto Mephibosheth.
13 So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he did eat continually at the king's table; and was lame on both his feet.

One of the worse bigotry in America is the hate towards those with disabilities. No one talks about it, but it does exist. Most people generally have compassion I believe for those with disabilities, but it is the disabled that do not appear disabled that struggle with haters of disabled. It is the silent treatment, the shunning, get a job mentality of some and even the attitude I got work you got to work too. Never seeing the first x-ray of the person, or understanding of their limitation. It is the attitude of what can one do and what can others not do. I watched a video not long ago of a boy with MS in a wheel chair type of bed working as a floor buffer. His name escapes me. He had the job because he wanted a job and the owner of the business knew the family and they went to the extreme of hooking up his wheelchair to the machine somehow. His mom would get him dressed for work and take him to work and he would polish the floor with the floor buffer machine. Is this abuse, no if the boy desired to work and provision was made for his disability. Can provision be made for those with disabilities in all cases, I suspect so. What is the risk to the company that will pay for accident if it happens, will they take the risk? Every case is different and every situation different to the last. The point there is always work to be done, can a person find a place that will take the risk?

David a King, who had one wife that was the daughter of Saul which had no bearing on the story, had a love for King Saul's son Jonathan, and he had a brother name Mephibosheth who was disabled by accident of their nurse falling when running away from Jezreel. King Saul had compassion for the man and took him into his palace and allowed him to eat from his table and he cared for him, because both feet were lame. We actually had one President, that suffered from Polio many years ago his name was Franklin Delanore Roosvelt. He was 39 when he contract Polio, but Polio did not stop his political career and he would soon become President despite being in a wheel chair in private he used braces to walk along with a cane. He was one determind disabled to make a difference in our nation. He serve during WWII and would die in office. Helen Keller would fight for women rights as long as will as be encouragement to many blind and deaf people. She was blind and deaf from Scarlette fever. Many people are over comers of their situation.

The story of overcomers with disability does not stop at the legacy of presidents, writers, janitors, educated and so forth. God does not always take away the handicap but enables people to become overcomers of their situations. One obstacle does not have to change your world. The blind man that was healed fifty years after his birth, had begged for a living until his healing. (John 9) What the point not everyone in scripture received a healing but those that did, knew who had healed them. Those that remained unhealed still served even in royal places. Do not think Mephibosheth did not have a view of the political kind, after all he had been a king's son. However we do not see him weighing in his political voice, but I bet he did.

The point whether we healed in this lifetime or healed after, God is going to deliver us. The point being what are we truly limited by our own mindset or the mindset of others. It is finding the one thing that one can do with living with a disability to make a living. To be the best they can be for the Lord.

God is our healer, but sometimes he allows disease and disability for a time, but a day will come when Christ our healer will wipe all the tears of our eyes and heal all our diseases. If you are waiting for your time of healing, what can you do while waiting. God has not called anyone to be slothful, but called them to do what they able to do.

How can the church be builders of people of disability, enable them to be people that are overcomers, by encouragement and not belittling them. To be their to help enable and to listen. To encouragers, because we all have limitations and need a helping hand from time to time. These people need Jesus too.

Dear Heavenly this devotion today writen to be encourager to Christians, and non Christians to carry the hope that disability does not have to be end of everything but a obstacle in life pathway for all people are meant to be overcomed. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: Revelation 21:4 KJV
4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.
