Getting Saved

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Acts 7:58-60 KJV
58 And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.
59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.
60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

Acts 9:1-20 KJV
1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,
2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.
7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man.
8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus.
9 And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.
10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.
11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,
12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.
13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:
14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.
15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.
17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized.
19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus.
20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God.

If I tell my story and you to tell your story, and we all tell our story, that is a lot of stories and alot of journey's to the road of salvation for those that believe and to those that do not believe your still searching for the road that will be you light to the truth of God's word about Jesus. Every believer has a story and a journey to tell. Some exciting and some may appear dull at times, but it is each individual story that important. Remember hearing a singer when I was about sixteen testify in church that Jesus saved her and had been raised in church and in a christian home. Though we shared the same story basically in upbringing, I felt like does that get the crowd excited. At sixteen I wonder about it. However looking back what do I see about the church world testimony but one of success to be able to say the church is raising godly children. However did they know one would be rebellious and another steady in faith? You hear stories of people straying in faith away from the church world or the principals of it. Some to horrible stories of sin and disbelief to rebellion but never remain in it. As a body of Christ we need to celebrate these kids that are growing up in good homes, good lives, and good foundation of faith that continues through a life time.

If we could celebrate anything about faith what would it be, the long endurance, the steadfastness, the hope of eternity instill from childhood? Would it be salvation at a young age? What would we celebrate about the home grown Christian into adulting years. One might say those children are lucky that the devil never tempted them like the one with the spirit of rebellion and curiousity about everything in the world they are in. The child that gets into everything, only to stand correct, and punished and then goes back to get into something totally different. Like going into a candy store and tasting every type to see if it really so sweet and being diabetic. One candy bar won't hurt you but ten will. It is trying something new that might not be in a low dose but in high doses very dangerous. In a high dose like alcohol would be dangerous. It is the temptation of the first drink, turning into temptations of more. A social drink might not be harmful, unless you totally have no tolerance for such things. The one drink turning into more and more until you have no control of yourself or situation.

Paul is working for Rome, he is a devout jew and priest. We learn this later in learning more about his life during his ministry but right now his name has not been changed and his given name is Saul. Saul see Stephen a devout Christian killed, while people laying their coats at his feet. How old was Saul when this event was recorded, I have no clue, but I do know that Saul journey is seen near the beginning at the marytrism of Stephen. Saul went by letter on his way to Damascus to seize men and women who were followers of faith to be taken to Jerusalem for persecution and execution. On his way he sees a brilliant light and Jesus Christ himself speaks to him and ask why he is persecuting him. Immediately Saul asked what would he(Jesus) have him do.

What was the change in Saul, the fact that he had encounter with Christ himself. He had a personal encounter with Jesus. That is Saul's testimony and he was blinded and healed within three days and spent time with the disciples learning about Christ, before beginning to preach. When he began to preach, he did not stop. He continue even unto Jerusalem where he too would be persecuted, but would escape death by going out the wall of the city. Paul testimony of survival, beatings, torture and so forth would continue through out his ministry. All because of one day being blinded by Christ. God began to build a new testimony in his heart, of salvation of those he shared Christ with and the building of the body of Christ. Yet Paul could take no credit for the building for he himself new that true building that was Christ Jesus.

One's testimony might not be as exciting as Paul's journey, but I guarantee you, that when you received Christ, he was already speaking to your heart about salvation, about faith in him and his power to save you. Let us celebrate each journey of faith, whether it is without grossness of sin to the celebration of the one that was lost and seep in the sin of this world for the glorification of the Christ Jesus. We all have sinned and fallen short and some might have no more then the last arguement or fight with a sibling, or disobedient to parent or teacher on their recorded of sin, but it still sin. And salvation has still come to the one lost, because it truly is our unbelief that needs saving in our life. Saul's unbelief was confronted by Jesus Christ himself as a shining light.

We can not build a wall of faith around God without God light shining in the heart of each and every believer. Share the testimony of the one that no one thought could be saved and celebrate the one that saved from the world early in life, his salvation is important too. This generation needs to know no matter where you are in life Christ can shine you up and clean you up by enabling a person to believe in him.

Dear Heavenly Father, let us celebrate the life you give each of us through Christ Jesus. All become a new creation in Christ Jesus. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: 2 Corinthians 5:14-21 KJV
14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:
15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
