The Hyssop Where Did You Say It Growing? 08/9/2021
Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris1 Kings 4:32-34 KJV
32 And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five.
33 And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes.
34 And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.
I one woman that is particular about the product I use to clean and wash dishes. I am very particular on the scrubbies I buy, though they common product and I perfer older style of scrubbies then modern ones, I still seek out those scrubbies best for the job of cleaning. God, himself is particular about What He cleans us with too. Hyssop growing out of the wall, a plant that used for medical purposes, used to lift the sponge to Christ lips and used in cermonial cleansing with blood of vessels and so forth including people. Psalms 51:6 purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean: wash me, and I will be white as snow. Most of us today would not use blood to clean anything or to anoint anything for purging. Yet the blood is reminder of the sacrifice made for sin, such as a sheep, goat or cow in the Old Testament and in the New Testament it is a reminder of Christ blood that was shed for you and me through his beating he bore and the cross.
What is the point of the wall and out of it grows hyssop. Part of the cleansing process must come from the praising of God through his word and the reading and redition of the word. Solomon spoke of God's creation and the tools used to clean the wall the grew out of the wall. Now if think long enough metaphorically you could say the word being Christ/Savior of reminder of faith, to instill that faith was needed outside and upon the wall, growing because planted within the clay of the wall that the bricks are of. Who is bricks but the children of God that he built the wall with and purged with the blood of the Lamb upon the plant/hyssop. Solomon talked about the hyssop that grew out of the wall of protection of faith in God. Evidence of what Solomon spoke and not just wisdom of God but the truth of who God was as Creator and Lord. Solomon only new the Lord not the Messsiah in the flesh, but he knew the salvation of the word of God. That same word that saves us today through faith in Christ Jesus.
If you look at a brick wall it divided by mortar and the mortar the glue that holds it all together, giving a splotch of red of brick. Now if we try and purge he block by our power beyond the words of who God is, what expects, and what he calls sin and forgiveness, we fail because in truth, who can tell what size or shape a brick in the wall should be but the one that designs and creates it, and covers it with the blood of Jesus. Who can place a brick in place of God's master wall of protection but God himself.
When you look at the wall remember God is growing hyssop out of it to use in the sanctifying of the wall, and it has to grow from the wall because growing from the blood and cornerstone of Jesus and his children of faith.
Dear Heavenly Father purge us and cleanse with your hyssop, and that make us white as snow, remind us of your word, Christ sacrifice of his blood, is the only thing that can purge our sin. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Psalm 51:1-19 KJV
1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
