Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris1 Timothy 4:1-16 KJV
1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
3 Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.
4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:
5 For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
6 If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
7 But refuse profane and old wives' fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.
8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.
9 This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
10 For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.
11 These things command and teach.
12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
15 Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
How many enjoyed a short break, I know I did, but I do not believe breaks should be for long periods of time, though there are times when eyes fail, health fail, emergencies arises and so forth that prevents scripture reading, but it should never take you away from time of prayer. What I mean is we learn to pray in trials of our life more readily then sometimes in the quick or quiet moments of the day. The Holy Spirit intercedes for the believer and we have to trust God on that one. Time away is not a negative thing it can be most positive, but to long out and you forget what scripture truly speaks. No never worry you forget what God's word speaks if it is speaks to your heart, because the Holy Spirit intercedes and reminds us of it. An elderly lady several years before her death was concerned she would forget her Bible, but I told her God knows your heart and mind, do not let those things be your concern. Several days before her death God laid on my heart it was near her time to pass away, and I wonder why he prepared me but as I receive the phone call of her passing, I knew in my heart she was in the arms of her Savior. The time of absents from God's word is not going to hurt you in the sense of not knowing scripture, it when one fails to read God's word at all, or at least listen and hear it and take it to heart.
The importance of daily study or time with God is for yours and my spiritual benefit and a reminder of why we study his word. We can be slack in reading, but must press on. The reason being the seducing of those that care nothing about God or his word still exist in our world, and those are people that make the world look inviting only to cause one spiritual harm. Why is the word so important because it purges our hearts and minds from sin. The word of God sanctifies our spirit and cleanses us daily of our sin in our life. Christ's work on the cross was enough for eternal security, but there is part of faith we can not deny and that is the relationship Jesus wants to have with his followers even today. He wants to lead and guide us in his footsteps. He wants to carry us through the storms and valleys of life and be in the mountaintop experience with us.
How can Jesus be followed or how can he lead if one only seek the relationship of the world. Those seducing spirits that say this group or that group is okay, it say but God is not welcome here. How many schools tossed God to the curb, only to still have the Bible in many classrooms, because teachers refused to toss it out. How many students picked it up to see why the government would want it removed from school along with prayer. If we want God in our schools then we got to put children with knowledge of God there, along with godly teachers. The Bible is a book writen by God's instructions to the writer of each book. Yet his Spirit is alive in each and every believer and that means God's word is also in the heart of each believer no matter where they go. The Bible is made of many stories that tell the human journey even if it ancient past, it still applies today.
Don't let anyone despise the youth that are soul winners for Jesus. Instead help them learn to set example of how to live in their daily lives, to the lost world around them. One can be to preachy with words and not enough action and then you can be not enough words and all action. See the world knows how to imitate Christianity and the Devil even knows scripture, but he can not claim that he follows it even with his actions of deception. See there is mindset and action set to faith. One is to follow and to learn from Jesus and to do his will. We all know how to open a door for someone, but do we do it? We all know how to show a little compassion but do we. Do we show compassion like Jesus, do we love like Jesus, do we follow Jesus words like He followed His Father's word? Do we follow in purity of heart, mind and soul. Does our faith speak to love our neighbor as we do ourselves.
If I can leave with one thought do we follow in the footsteps of Jesus truly or is it just natural good behavior set by worldly standards of our time? The background for this month is red brick wall. One of the reason it red brick is the one fact is what kind of wall are we building around us? A wall of destruction, or wall of faith, hope and love. A wall that shields or a wall that destroys the chiefest of friends. Is the shield of this wall built to protect or only to use as a wall waiting to collaspe and destroy those around us. Let the walls you build be symbols of your home, your hope of your future and not the destructive nature of things that fade way and do not last. Jesus blood is a symbol by the color of the brick, that is a covering for all believers. Yet each block built is a symbol of the walk of faith and the spiritual things that never pass away if built on the foundation of Jesus.
Dear Heavenly Father, build around me a wall of faith, a shield of hope, and eternal blessings. Build in my life those things that are about you, so your word does not part out of my life when I can no longer read, write, or cherish the memories of love ones so dear. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Hebrews 12:13-15 KJV
13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
