Power or Humility 8/19/2020
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisActs 8:5-25 KJV
5 Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and preached Christ unto them.
6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did.
7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed.
8 And there was great joy in that city.
9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God.
11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries.
12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done.
14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.
22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.
23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity.
24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the Lord for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me.
25 And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans. One of the biggest complaints of those not healed and not delivered from whatever is they can not have it their way, no i am not talking about Egg McMuffin from Mcdonald's this AM, though it sounds good. It is about having the power of the Holy Spirit in either our lives or another so we can control God for either profit or our own desires be meet without understanding the will of God. When we think on the principal of God and his power it is never for us to control, the man named Job even learned that lesson. Jacob understood he was not more powerful then God, Jonah learned God's will be done, not his own when swallowed by a fish and then went and preached in Nineveh. Judas learned he could not sell Jesus for silver nor could he undo his sin by his own power, Peter learned that God said he would sin, when the rooster crowed three times, Jesus knew that he would go to cross though he asked God to remove this cup from him, this portion of pain and suffering from him. Paul found his suffering would not be removed, but he continued on his journey demonstrating the power of God to over come, to face difficulty, adversary, punishment for opposition, and pain, and torment during his life of preaching.
What then can we say if all these people could not control God and this is only a handful of Bible characters, do you think you can control God this morning by only say in the name of Jesus and your desire be meet. Everything we pray and ask for must be according tot he will of God. It is God's will no one suffer. But it is also God will to teach us through suffering, because his own Son bear the pain for many and so doing others would follow him just because of his suffering, just because of the hardship, not knowing the love of God but desiring to know God's love that surround his people even in time's of crisis.
What can we say then with the sorcer desire to buy the gift of God so he could possess it and make money from it. We see minister in our world today that would love to control God and God's people. They have no right to do so. They will even offer them everything they desire only to learn they can not control the Spirit of God or the will of God in a person's life. I have no respect for those that try to do so. They do not know God only want what God has to give and nothing more, and they treat God's people the same way.
God's people are special people a people not designed by the spirit of the world but the spirit of God to do the will of God according to his will to draw all men to him. We take up Christ torch, to lead all people to this great loving God, but there is often a price to pay that many can not bear, and yet if they do bear the hardship, the price and reward is to see others come ot the foot of the cross and get saved. Job seen his three friends repent along side him, Jonah witness repentance in Nineveh and on a ship in the middle of a storm, Peter found his ownself full of the need for repentance, and Paul, understood not but rejoiced because he knew that his suffering came with a need for others to repent to God also. If an innocent man is need of repentance and a sinner is need of repentance, it does not mean the innocent man is less sinful, it means, that the sinful man could see his own mistake by the righteous need to repent also.
If we try and buy the gift of God we can not. Simon thought he could buy what he seen, yet when he learned he could not, he was not only repented, but begged them to pray for him that no evil would befall him, for his ignorance to the will, gifts and power of God. We can not believe for one moment we can order God to heal us. Two we can not think for a moment that the gifts of God can be purchased possession, but we can expect God to take away our infirmities one day even when Ghrist returns, or when we go home to be with him. We can also expect God to use his gifts in our life for his glory if we not only we ask, but we receive thos gifts God wants to use in us.
Are you today going to allow God to use you for his glory despite your suffering, your heart ache, your unability to seem to receive your own desire? Remember humbleness before God is where it all begins at the foot of the cross, as we surrender our life to him, he can then use us to be an instrument for his glory through our testimony of the works of God in our life.
Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the gift that you bestow on us as believers to enable us to endure the cross you set before us for our life. Enable us to remember to stay not only at the foot of the cross of Jesus in humility but to press on carrying our cross in submission to you, knowing whatever the burden you called us to bear it will be for your glory and honor. in Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: 2 Corinthians 12:5-12 KJV
5 Of such an one will I glory: yet of myself I will not glory, but in mine infirmities.
6 For though I would desire to glory, I shall not be a fool; for I will say the truth: but now I forbear, lest any man should think of me above that which he seeth me to be, or that he heareth of me.
7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.
8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me.
9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
11 I am become a fool in glorying; ye have compelled me: for I ought to have been commended of you: for in nothing am I behind the very chiefest apostles, though I be nothing.
12 Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds.
