The Power To Receive
8/12/2020

Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

John 1:1-14 KJV
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.
7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.
8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.
9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The power of sin the power to deny God and the power to believe in God is a gift from God before we were even born. The free will of man is clearly seen in scripture by the things man does, both good and evil. Yet few people understand we have the power to be saved. Power to be saved, is not by our own power but our power to do as God instructs us and that is believe. God sent John but John was not the light of God, but he beared witness of the light of God. World did not know God but God had made the world, and they world knew not God. The world beheld the glory of the only begotten Son of God, made by the word made of flesh and he dwelt among us. Now God gives every man breath which is light, or life. Gives everyone that light that one day will expire. Yet God gave man power to that they might believe in him.

That power to receive and ask for salvation and to become sons of God by God's Spirit. He gave man power to receive the hope of eternal life. He gave man the power to choose to have faith in him. If i tell a lot of people that have the power to believer or not to believe some one would probably say how do I have power without evidence, without proof of what I can not see. I sometimes want to take and look at John 1 and say God is talking from the beginning of time, but God is also speaking of the present of John the Baptist that forerunner of Christ. We got this split time frame of beginning with no John, and beginning of when John the Baptist began to preach repentance of sin. Did the ability to receive God ever change or to receive his word that would one day become flesh and blood like you and me?

One has to be careful when they say their words became known around the world. It may not been your words, your words just had the same cry as another, or maybe it was echoing back to confirm the cry of the speaker or thinker. If you ever go into a stadium and hear the sound system you know immediate the echo is the sound of the announcers in the box. Now if you shout loud enough the whole stadium might hear you shout, but usually it is other voice with the same cry of rage, glee, and excitment that is echoing in one accord. The language the same because the language is the same when it comes to those cries of excitment in football or baseball arena. It changes not how fans cheer they learn to cheer in unison format. No one teaches it, it a natural reflex in the stadium as natural as throwing the ball once a participant in the stands.

God's word when spoken by one person or another does not matter the meaning the calling is still the same. God's word in unison of more then one minister sounds exactly the same. Yet some are more elegant in speech and know how to draw a crowd better then another. Yet God's word is simple this, to believe in his word, to believe in his Son that came in the flesh as a witness of who He is and demonstration of who he is, so all might beleive. He gave all the power to believe, but not all believe even with startling evidence before man.

This is something that are mimicked that are truly your own words, but without knowing the speaker or if their was even connection to you, it could be all an echo from a bigger minister or teacher. It is definitely the Holy Spirit when God's word is repeated. Sometimes it is just encouragement to the soul, but the power not mine to control the echo of the world around me. We can not control how what we say effects another, we might like to think we can.

If one reads Ezra and Nehemiah you find real quick when the word of God began to be read and the law of God was spoken people began to weep and repent of sin. The word of God convicted the Israelites to repent. The word of God old or new will bring people to repentance when they realize it is word from God, but not all words in scripture is God's word, some stories tell man's response to God's word. The word that became flesh in John 1:14 is speaking of Jesus the only Son of God the Son of God that his foretold in the Old Testament and at the time of John the Baptist, is who John spoke as coming and upon seeing Jesus he would tell the world Jesus was the Lamb of God the that would save us from our sins

Here is the struggle in Bible culture there was countries that sacrficie their offspring. Jesus would be a sacrificial Lamb. If the enemy was going to kill the Son of God, then man would have to see the resurrection to know the enemy could not defeat the message of God. Could not defeat God's word. Man may try and destroy what God says but God's word can not be removed, but by God. Christ forgave man of their sin before his death, before his last breath, and then retook his breath with his resurrection. He did it to set man free from a yoke of bondage.

With some churches still remaining closed, others opening and some using distance, others meeting outside and so forth. I wonder how many even consider the need to go to church and the need to go to the store. Both important for food, but both different types of food, one spiritual and one for the health and well being of the body. How many people found worshipping with their families at home a blessing for spiritual growth in their own life. How many found sitting in car in the parking lot just as comforting as being in the pew. How many found hearing a sermon from internet, tv, or radio just as appealing as large crowd. Jesus said the true worshippers worshipped in Spirit and in truth. Those that receive Christ receive his Spirit. Those that receive God's word receive His Spirit that cries Abba Father. That choice being the individual by their power to receive the truth of God's Spirit and what he says to the church world we live in, whether inside, outside, or alone, the church still hears the Shepherds voice. Do you fear what will come, or do you hear the Shepherd call to worship him in unison of the Spirit. Music much the same way. Do our hearts sing God's praises in unison with or without the music playing. Does not God speak to all his people.

The world has a choice to listen to hear the church testimony of Jesus, or they can tune us out only wonder why we all sound similiar in sound or the same with dividers all around. The crowd make a choice to listen to hear as man did in the days of John the Baptist. Some would follow Jesus knowing he was said to be the Lamb of God and testimony they seen of dove decending at the baptism of Jesus and the voice of God the Father, and others would remain with John because they understood not this testimony God gave of his Son.

Where are you learning, listening, trying to figure it out, or are you receiving God's truth and testimony of who Jesus is as the word that came in the flesh. Are you using your power to call on the name of Jesus or you using your power to turn away. Today is the day to receive Christ as Lord and Savior. The hour is now, not next week, but now to receive and believe. If your not a believer go to how to be saved section there is some verses there to mediate on and also a prayer to help you receive Christ as Lord and Savior.

Dear Heavenly Father help us receive not just because you gave us the power to do so, but continue with your evidence through your word but also the testimony from others about your Son Jesus who came in the flesh for all mankind to declare who he is as the only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study: John 20:29-31 KJV
29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:
31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.
