Ask Of God 8/11/2020
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJames 1:1-27 KJV
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
If perfect gifts come from above what should we ask God for first but the wisdom to know what we ask, wisdom to receive and use the gift God gives us. Over the years I watch young people grow up and some to be very productive adults and others not so productive. Now production comes in many forms, from ability to work and work hard, to those perhaps not as productive but still productive with their hidden talents that come to light either later or even early in life. Many things in life come from hard work and money but not all gifts. There is the things we has humans are capable of doing without the aid or assistance from others and there other things we learn that we need assistance in life. It is those friends or family members that feel they know how to fix a situation, often that only fix those things they see if capable of doing so. Teach a kid to tie his show and see how long it takes him to tie his shoes as an adult when they come untied. Something simply taught can go into will, i have not tripped over my own laces yet, so why worry about it, because simply someone else can trip on your laces.
We might teach someone all the things to do right but until they are implied they have no value. All the riches in the world can not be taken with you and all the gifts of God can be taken with you into eternity if they gifts that are tangible from God. Our spiritual gifts from God our not gifts learned from another person other then God. There things that effect the inner soul. There things that come outwardly into action of man, but still taken everywhere a person goes.
Everyone in the world learns to cook a meal, unless they so rich that their servants do it for them, but it teaches them not how to care for themselves or be a survivor. If someone else cuts up your food, you only learn to put it in your mouth and that not surviving. That learning to be depended on those around you, without being able to do a thing for yourself. In rehab, instructors do their best to get their patients as far as they can to be independent once more, but not always do they get them to complete self care, that is different. I talking about someone capable of doing for themselves but they choose never to lift a finger to help themselves. Relying instead on those around them for every whim. God never wants our reliance to the point we never step up and swing the bat without saying Lord lift the bat it is heavy and hit the ball for me.
God's gifts are meant to be used by the person that receives them. It is meant to be received and used for the purpose and intent God designed them for. All gifts are perfectly designed by God. I talked about David seeing the King Saul's mantle and sword and it being untested by him to use, but it did not mean he would not grow into armour fit for a king. It did not mean the gift of Saul was not appropiate for little David. The fire department gives school kids little fire hats never realizing some of those kids will one day wear a real helmet.
I can remember playing with my dad hard hat, never think I might ever need one. Using mom sewing machine seem more in tune to what I need to learn to use and only learn to use it enough to sew at the minimum a seam. Yet the point is we often grow into the things God is planning for us. The first gift we need like King Solomon is wisdom. Solomon was given one gift from God that God promised to grant him, and he choose wisdom. His wisdom was well known around the world of his day, but his ability to use this wisdom was not so great in his personal life.
When we ask God for perfect gifts from above we need to be able to use them in our personal daily life. God is going to grant those things needed to share his word, and his love, but we need to know how to be quiet and demonstrate those things in our life so others can see God's ability in our life. Our patience from God is to see through our action how we deal with situations, God's grace can be seen in our action, God's wisdom can be seen in how we deal with situations. God's peace can be seen in the storms of our life. Even so even our humanity comes out in our day to day living and shows our humanity and not God's gifts.
God's gifts even when not demonstrated are known by others, because they to wrestle with the perfect gifts of God that come by God's Spirit to his children of faith in His Son. It is our humanity that shows we are still much like the world at times, but it is God grace that allows the world to see his gifts working in our life to the point they to want those things. When we wear the full armor of God when we grow into the perfect gift of God the beauty of our maturity in God is seen, but also the beauty of God's gifts and grace at work in our life. Some of us learn how to demonstrate those gifts faster then others, but it seldom takes our human reaction, until we able to see the maturity of God's gift in our life. The change in others that is taken on by our prayers and not our words. If we ask God his gifts are perfect for even those interacting in our life. First gift being his Son and the second gift being the Holy Spirit. All other gifts from God being the work of his word and his Spirit in our life brought into action.
Dear Heavenly Father help us to grow into your armor that we see before us, and let those gifts from above that is coming to us in perfection come about preparing us for that perfection that is to come by faith in your Son and your Spirit, that those gifts work outwardly in us is a witness to other people that are capable of seeing those changes that you do in our life. Let your gifts pour into our life. In Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: Luke 11:13 KJV
