Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisJob 42:1-17 KJV
1 Then Job answered the LORD, and said,
2 I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withholden from thee.
3 Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.
4 Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.
5 I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.
6 Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.
7 And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.
8 Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.
9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.
10 And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.
11 Then came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.
12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.
13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.
14 And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch.
15 And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.
16 After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations.
17 So Job died, being old and full of days.
When one goes through hardship we often wonder if there is going to be a day after, a day of deliverance and economy recovery. I watch people struggle, and wonder what going to happen tomorrow after the stimulus packages are spent to our nation. Yes by executive order President Trump yesterday signed the next stimulus package. Now he is a business man, and I sure he looking at the cost of all he handing out and how it will effect our nations budget. Now as a business man President Trump is not going to want to leave the Nation economics worse then when he went in, so I sure he looking at more then just at the stimulus package as he prepares our nation to receive more aid to those fighting unemployment, proverty and so forth. I am sure he is looking and wonder how he can best help folks in need. Yet I know the democrats do the same. Because of this some things have changed in healthcare and fueling global economy. Yet even so, our nation must look at their own situation and aid their own people who support them in times of crisis.
What am I saying is time of crisis there is always a day after, either told destruction and recovery, or death and life eternal in the place you decided while on this earth, based on faith in God and Christ Jesus. The story simple enough, but what your situation going through a crisis as Job did based on the testing of the enemy called Satan, because God allowed it. Several days passed, maybe even months, time frame I never truly examined, but I know that Job sat and wonder why he was being punished by God. He lost everything but his wife and three friends who were not helpful in his situation.
If you watch old westerns after the shoot out there is always a day after of mending fences, planting crops and restoring the town back to order, but this situation with Job was a little more serious. Job thinks he knows God and speaks of the things he knows about God and demands God to respond to him as if he had authority to do demand from God and when get to the passage above we see a Job in sackcloth and ashes full of repentance because God had showed not only power but his vastness of the thing he does and sees. God's power and authority fully realized by Job, and realize how short he was in defining God, his friends even worse off then Job because they spoke untruth about what they did not understand about God. Yet we do understand that Job friends never meant to offend God but they spoke in ignorance about what they knew not or knew not about. God brought this to their attention by speaking to all four. With fear and respect the three friends bring the sacrifice God requested to make things right between all four to Job to perform. And with this sacrifice came friends and neighbors to dine and give an offering to help mend Job's situation. Giving the offering to help Job. They gave him jewelry and gold coins. Job had more children and rebuilt his life and he died happily and old man.
The first thing we need to recogize is God's authority and power even in our own life. Power and authority that we ourselves can not control. That authority that is God's alone. Yet we also must realize as children God wants to heal, deliver, and aid his people. It is the authority of God that tells us that we do not deserve his supply, but He gives us supply and help in times of trouble. Some would say Job leaned on his friends for aid as they came when his three best friends and him repented. Even family members came to aid Job. I have to wonder, if he seen his friends giving as a blessing or a much needed handout in his current situation. Yet did his family and friends help him, did they aid him, did they provide for him. God blessed him with those who came with the sacrifice and burnt offerings given to the lord in repentance for sin. No doubt seeing such a commotion at poor desolate Job they knew something was up. Feasting, celebration and gifts were brought, Job had come to his realization of his folly(sin).
Where are we as society, have we come to our knees in realization of the power of God verses the power of man. Have we understood God grace and mercy when we repent and ask Jesus to be Lord of our life. Have we come to submission to God's authority in our life. Do we realize all God can do, verses what man can do. God can heal but he can also allow our wounding as he did Job with allowing the devil to test him. Job wounding proved to Satan that Job would not turn from God, but Job wounding proved to Job God's authority in his life and in the lives of others. That he could not hold a candle to God and demand things from God. Where are you this morning in your relationship from God. You can not demand God to heal, you can ask God to heal, you can demand God to deliver, you can ask God to deliver or to take you through your troublesome times. God is not a God that takes orders from man. He is a God that hears our request and our needs. He hears our hurts and then looks at the desires of our hearts as we submit our power to him, to provide those things we need, either through work provided, or gifts from friends. Either way God provides what we need if we ask and fear him.
Dear Heavenly Father, help us to fear you more then the troublesome days ahead in our life, know you know our needs and care more for us then even the sparrows. Keep us humble before you knowing your provision, in Jesus precious name, Amen.
Continual Scripture Study: Luke 12:4-7 KJV
4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
