Use To Be But No Longer 8/08/2020
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisEphesians 5:1-8 KJV
1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.
3 But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints;
4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
No one is required to be as they were, once enlightened to the truth of God's word. That hard words for sinners to even live by, because of our human nature and desire. But let us go on the permiss that we been enlighten to the things of this world. Some hear are only young that might be reading and I have to wonder what then. Are we so naive to think children do not understand this as well even at a young age once applied to their understanding. Just because they may not been faced with sexual immorality, or idolatry, they do have understanding of right and wrong. Upon faith we have a new desire in our heart to please God and to live for him. Yet until we face temptation of the enemy even as believers we do not know what it is to resist temptation, until we experience the world from a side of it okay come and join, only to find it utterly disgusting we can not know what is totally beautful, that is not true. As humans we know blood and gore is disgusting even by standards of those that like blood and gore. Most know fear and to be in fear because of not only being out of one's element but out of one's boundaries of a safe zone. What is a safe zone, some would say six foot distancing today, but it more then six foot when we live in areas of violence, and crime. Yet what if you can not afford to live any better and survive. Where you live does not make you evil, your life style makes you evil. A person becomes a Christian and they live in their house, and consider that a safe zone, but outside is not a safe zone. Anything can happen outside your safe zone.
Safe zone is where germs can not penetrate, wrong, things come through to your tv, radio, internet and so forth into your safe zone. Those things can not harm you physically but they can effect your mind. It can hurt you physically if you remain on the couch in front of these things for hours at a time. Those things that take you away from the beauty of God in your life are most destructive. What is it to have faith in Christ, it is to lay aside those things that displease God, and knowingly displease God. It is choosing not to eat that chocolate pie on the counter knowing five inches will be added to your hips and thighs if you do so. The pie itself is not evil it what we do with it that can be evil. Sitting and eating the whole pie is the trouble, even when serving in portions, it is an issue, if trying to loose weight, no it is more like most can't stop with the first slice attitude that makes the pie evil, no it what in the pie that makes it evil for someone to loose weight.
What then can we do to change the course of sin, but to pray. Let first discover where sin begins, in the heart and mind of person, or through the eyes, or both. We never would of imagined evil, if evil had not occurred. The idea of i wonder what that felt like, so in turn I have to find out for myself. The girl that jumps on the back of a motorcycle without permission from mom and dad, knows immediately what is to feel in total control and disobedience of the ride. To go beyond the doors of permission. To ride into the sunset hoping not to get caught until returned, if returned. The wind blowing in the face, and the born to be wild moment because it is different, a longing to go against what is right. Nothing the girl did beside disobey the parents was evil, but the crime done of breaking the rules of the parents house.
God knows of our desires and those temptation that causes us to break his rules, and it seems on the motorcycle the girl is not breaking rules of God, yet when the person return to the word of God, or to time of prayer, then one realize when one stop following and did things their own way during the day. Where the temptation of pie, began at the selling point of looking good, and the motorcycle outside was to tempting to resist with the guy wearing shiny black leather all the way down to the boots. It seem harmless, but it in direct disobedience to God. To visit a pagan temple for some friends ceremony may seem harmless, but is it? To cross the street to the video store or go online and view things connected to evil, is it sin? To participate in a party, but never touching any illegal substance, is it a safe zone?
We can not resist temptation unless one, the temptation is not something we ourselves desire or two we understand how to say the word No and turn away. If that road you travel is only going to bring you back to God, whether on your knees or walking hand and hand with your Savior. A person can choose to take Jesus with them, or they may be riding shotgun with the devil. It might look harmless, but is it? What is a glass wine, or one cigarette? Seems harmless, until that one night you decide you just get drunk. Not caring about how it will effect themselves especially in the morning, or when driving. It taking taking that one more step into sin that others can only see the first step into the mud puddle of sin. Teens challenge each other online in disasterous and harmful ways. Many things look unharmful, until someone majorly gets hurt trying to duplicate the stunt. Enticing words of the enemy is come on, let's go and it will not hurt you.
Devil entices us with his words, with his people of sin that dress in ways to cause temptation, to entice people into sin that they know they should not try, but might enjoy for a time, until a sexual disease, or harm comes in some way like even a knife wound. Did we listen to God before sin, or did we just do it, because it looked good and one desired it. Did we heed the words of the devil more then the words of God.
God warns us of enticing words of the enemy, but he gives us free will to make a choice. What are you choosing today? Are you going to walk in the love of God and in the light of Christ Jesus the word of God that became flesh. Are you going to follow the path of righteousness that sitll might lead you to a road of sacrifice and even death, when one follows Jesus it leads to a road of life that leads to eternal life in heaven. The world around you might be evil, but God's love is there in the believer's lifes. God's love is outside those doors if you live in the light of Christ. Are you making a difference with your actions? No one does it 100% of the time, so when you fail get back up and try again.
Live for God try to be the voice of good and not evil. It is hard, hit your thumb with a hammer and see what comes out of your mouth. Walk down the street and plan your day to go inside with someone else and tell me how easy is it to plan without at least one cross word. You get the picture. After 31 years of marriage believe me I know. Yet I also know God's grace is sufficient and if you love someone your grace is sufficient in their life too, even when mistakes are made on both sides and life is imperfect.
Dear Heavenly Father, may your grace be sufficient in our life as we struggle with temptation of the world, realizing the temptation began before we understood that it candraws us away from your path. Keep us in your word, so we follow it and when temptation comes we resist and stand firm in faith. in Jesus precious name, Amen. Continual Scripture Study: 1 Peter 5:6-11 KJV
6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
10 But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
