Power And Authority Of Christ 8/03/2020
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisLuke 5:12-26 KJV
12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.
13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him.
14 And he charged him to tell no man: but go, and shew thyself to the priest, and offer for thy cleansing, according as Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
15 But so much the more went there a fame abroad of him: and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by him of their infirmities.
16 And he withdrew himself into the wilderness, and prayed.
17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.
20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee.
21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?
23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?
24 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins, (he said unto the sick of the palsy,) I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy couch, and go into thine house.
25 And immediately he rose up before them, and took up that whereon he lay, and departed to his own house, glorifying God.
26 And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, We have seen strange things to day.
The need of Christ as the Son man to with draw and pray is only a demonstration of our own need to pray during ministry. This time of prayer coming between two healings. It not the only time Jesus withdrew to talk to God the Father, but he wihdrew for our benefit. Our humanity requires us to pray and seek God when in ministry. What is ministry but doing the will of God and Christ Jesus by the Holy Spirit. Just because we are given Jesus to be our propriation for our sin and the Spirit has promised as a comforter, does not mean we are not human, not flesh and blood, and it never means we are God. We are working in our humanity to see others saved through faith, and their sins forgiven.
It takes faith to make declaration Christ does when he heals the leper, to say yes God can make you clean, and to see leprosy fall away. Jesus had the power because of who he is. Has minister we do not own the power that Christ owned, nor do we have the power to declare a person to be healed declaring it in the name of Jesus, the healing it is still according to the will of God. We do have the power to ask in Jesus name for healing to occur. Drawing the line between our humanity, and who Christ is in his authority. Christ humanity did not take away his power to make a declaration for healing. Christ humanity did not change his power status as Son of God, prince of peace, Messiah, King of Kings and Lords of Lords. His power did not cease to exist in his humanity. Satan has power to heal, and yet he has no authority to deliver from sin or to forgive sin. Interesting thought. Something to remember Satan can not forgive, because he knows not about forgiveness. He receive no forgiveness from God. Humanity forgives many things. Do we forgive evil, probably not, for once evil is done in a horrific way to someone or to another the ability to forgive gruesome crimes, becomes near impossible without Christ power in us. To shun evil is to take God's side, to shun wickness is to take God's side, to forgive sin is to take God's side. The devil is not forgiven because he sees no need to repent.
The point being authority God gives the anti Christ and Jesus is not the same. Yet both possess similiar powers. A deceiver has power that is Christlike inorder to deceive, but his power to forgive does not exist. Christ power to forgive is well known in scripture. Something to think long and hard on, because the Pharisees were like who is this man Jesus that he can forgive sin. Yet Jesus says so you know I have the power to forgive sin let this man on the mat, rise up and walk. His authority to forgive sin as God does, is seen through his power to heal, a sign to religious leaders and doctors of his day. As humans we have the power to forgive. It is something we learn to do is to forgive even when it hurts us more then the crime against us. Our ability to forgive and move on is something God gave his children the authority and power to do. To love as Christ loved us, take sometimes an act of God in our life. Don't be ashame of this.
There is a reason why we has humans need to pray and spend time by ourselves as Christ did to purge our heart of evil, to purge our hearts of unforgiveness, to come to terms with the need that the power and authority in Christ to heal does not come to feed our own egos, or our mind, but to do the work of God so man can be saved and their sins forgiven by the power of Jesus name. Miracles are to show the possibility of forgiveness of sin. If God has healed you, is their any sin in your heart unconfessed as a believer or a potential believer. If God healed you, then Christ the redeemer has authority to forgive you. However the antichrist is not going to speak forgiveness, God's people know what is to be forgiven of sin, no doubt the Pharisees and doctors were questioning it because they obeyed the law sacrifice to God and remission for sin. God was bringing a new covenant to his people through his Son and doing so by showing the power to forgive sin, through the power of healing.
We are going to talk about this power Christ gave the disciples to heal through his name, why more healing is not seen through prayer. We will talk about the antichrist as well and why some see healing in strange places around the world, that makes no sense at all.
Dear Heavenly Father, we give you the glory for healing of individuals through prayer, but let it be a reminder to those around that Christ has the authority to forgive sin even at the cross. In Jesus preicous name, Amen.
