Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

Numbers 11:1-35 KJV
1 And when the people complained, it displeased the LORD: and the LORD heard it; and his anger was kindled; and the fire of the LORD burnt among them, and consumed them that were in the uttermost parts of the camp.
2 And the people cried unto Moses; and when Moses prayed unto the LORD, the fire was quenched.
3 And he called the name of the place Taberah: because the fire of the LORD burnt among them.
4 And the mixt multitude that was among them fell a lusting: and the children of Israel also wept again, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat?
5 We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick:
6 But now our soul is dried away: there is nothing at all, beside this manna, before our eyes.
7 And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of bdellium.
8 And the people went about, and gathered it, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked it in pans, and made cakes of it: and the taste of it was as the taste of fresh oil.
9 And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.
10 Then Moses heard the people weep throughout their families, every man in the door of his tent: and the anger of the LORD was kindled greatly; Moses also was displeased.
11 And Moses said unto the LORD, Wherefore hast thou afflicted thy servant? and wherefore have I not found favour in thy sight, that thou layest the burden of all this people upon me?
12 Have I conceived all this people? have I begotten them, that thou shouldest say unto me, Carry them in thy bosom, as a nursing father beareth the sucking child, unto the land which thou swarest unto their fathers?
13 Whence should I have flesh to give unto all this people? for they weep unto me, saying, Give us flesh, that we may eat.
14 I am not able to bear all this people alone, because it is too heavy for me.
15 And if thou deal thus with me, kill me, I pray thee, out of hand, if I have found favour in thy sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.
16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Gather unto me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom thou knowest to be the elders of the people, and officers over them; and bring them unto the tabernacle of the congregation, that they may stand there with thee.
17 And I will come down and talk with thee there: and I will take of the spirit which is upon thee, and will put it upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with thee, that thou bear it not thyself alone.
18 And say thou unto the people, Sanctify yourselves against to morrow, and ye shall eat flesh: for ye have wept in the ears of the LORD, saying, Who shall give us flesh to eat? for it was well with us in Egypt: therefore the LORD will give you flesh, and ye shall eat.
19 Ye shall not eat one day, nor two days, nor five days, neither ten days, nor twenty days;
20 But even a whole month, until it come out at your nostrils, and it be loathsome unto you: because that ye have despised the LORD which is among you, and have wept before him, saying, Why came we forth out of Egypt?
21 And Moses said, The people, among whom I am, are six hundred thousand footmen; and thou hast said, I will give them flesh, that they may eat a whole month.
22 Shall the flocks and the herds be slain for them, to suffice them? or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered together for them, to suffice them?
23 And the LORD said unto Moses, Is the LORD'S hand waxed short? thou shalt see now whether my word shall come to pass unto thee or not.
24 And Moses went out, and told the people the words of the LORD, and gathered the seventy men of the elders of the people, and set them round about the tabernacle.
25 And the LORD came down in a cloud, and spake unto him, and took of the spirit that was upon him, and gave it unto the seventy elders: and it came to pass, that, when the spirit rested upon them, they prophesied, and did not cease.
26 But there remained two of the men in the camp, the name of the one was Eldad, and the name of the other Medad: and the spirit rested upon them; and they were of them that were written, but went not out unto the tabernacle: and they prophesied in the camp.
27 And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp.
28 And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them.
29 And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? would God that all the LORD'S people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!
30 And Moses gat him into the camp, he and the elders of Israel.
31 And there went forth a wind from the LORD, and brought quails from the sea, and let them fall by the camp, as it were a day's journey on this side, and as it were a day's journey on the other side, round about the camp, and as it were two cubits high upon the face of the earth.
32 And the people stood up all that day, and all that night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails: he that gathered least gathered ten homers: and they spread them all abroad for themselves round about the camp.
33 And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, ere it was chewed, the wrath of the LORD was kindled against the people, and the LORD smote the people with a very great plague.
34 And he called the name of that place Kibrothhattaavah: because there they buried the people that lusted.
35 And the people journeyed from Kibrothhattaavah unto Hazeroth; and abode at Hazeroth.

What is occurring in faith when the Holy Spirit comes upon a person, it is about prophesy or sharing knowledge of God's word or experience the testimony of faith. If you read this whole chapter in Numbers 11 and get to the end and say why did God send a plague, because the people lusted after their own desires by grumbling about their situation. However before the plague came a discussion between God and Moses concerning the people only having manna to eat occured. Most people never had to live off of beans and rice for a week in America, but those that have and still do know the horror of the refrigator of knowing one more meal of them beans. People get that way even when they got food in the refrige that has a variety in it. In fact the looking at the refrige and freezer can be such a discussed at times, to think of eating only manna for months does not even sound deliteful. Imagine be in a situation you could not change your food source yourself. You are in a situation that beans and rice is the only choice Mind set become survival rather then choice. Mind set becomes complaining not because you do not have food so much but the choice is limited. Do you want rice or do you want beans for supper. Not a choice by many in my opinion. Yet in truth a choice to eat or not to eat is not limited by your situation. It only limited by a choice too. When put in the terms of choice and continual daily choice of certain foods, one can understand the attitude of the people when they began to complain to Moses and ask him to seek God for them concerning their desire for meat. In fact Moses even got angry himself with the people, but I can not help but think he was probably not enjoying his own diet either. Moses asked God for meat. God agreed to provide meat and not only meat for the people but help for Moses with dealing with the multitude of people. School teacher has 30 children to deal with in a classroom occasionally more. Image prophet Moses dealing with a crowd of people bigger then stadium by himself. He had people in place to help with law and order of things but not dealing with the things that went directly to God concerning spiritual needs, wants, and health.

God gave his Spirit, the same Spirit that rested on Moses to seventy elders. When God anointed these seventy elders they began to prophesize. When people talk about the infilling of the Holy Spirit it seems to me that Old Testament infilling is often left out. The infilling in the Old Testament is a guide to us even today, and testimony of God's pouring out on the people. Though this is a Jewish account, the infilling of the Holy Spirit is also spoken about in the New Testament. The infilling of the Holy Spirit on the Gentile people in Acts. God has used many people to speak his truth both to Jews and Gentile, both Old and New Testament. What is fail to be mention for a time upon earth God turned his back on the people. Perhaps what we should say is who did God turn his back on. Of course Children of disobedience. God is there for his people and for the people that repent of sin always He promises to never leave or forsake the believer. Yet the time of God's shunning on the world came to the children of disobedience. Ever great revival is a call to the lost and backsliden that are saved for repentance. The revival is a call to every believer for a fresh filling of God's presence in their life to do the will of God and a time of dedication to that service.

Does God punish sin if it continues after repentance after supply as happened? God did in the story. People often go seeking spiritual high to go home not satisfied, only because they were looking in the wrong way. God is a God of heart and soul. He desires to fill us for his will to be accomplished. Accepting God's will for our lives and asking God to fill us with His Spirit to accomplish his will is important. Yet what we need to understand God also filled seventy men to take the load off of Moses. Moses need was meet with seventy elders. God had the Holy Spirit in and upon Moses and it was not enough power for Moses to deal with the crowd. Now we know God is able to deal with the multitude all by himself without slaining a soul. God by His Spirit had provide stength and power to Moses to help him carry his cross. Will Moses is now fit up with God and the people. I think God understood that one man should not have to deal with crowd. The reason being even with God's Spirit upon Moses he was only a man, with human needs, needs not always a want. In this case the need for help was granted, yet it was also a want.

No one person can handle their cross alone even with Spirit of God there are times when a person needs a friends, and even family. There times friends and family will fail. It is not that God's power is not enough in one's life, but the human factor fails in that relationship with God. The mindset of "God will supply all our needs according to His riches in glory"(Phillipians 4:19). Well I want a nice thick steak, and I am eating chicken Lord. That is our attitude sometimes, but God knows what is best for us. He knows with sacrifice comes reward. He knows with disciple comes ability, consistency, endurance and even faith. He knows that his kingdom is vast, but we are not ready to receive all He has to offer us. We may say Lord fill me with your Spirit, but are we willing to obey and do his will. Are we willing to stand up and prophesize in the crowd. Are we willing to help the little old lady down the street. Where is our call in service to God. The filling of the Holy Spirit both in Numbers 11 and Acts 2 was for God's service. God provision of meat was to lessen the load of complainers upon Moses and the elders. The point it did not cease the crowd so he killed them that complained. Why are we not receiving what we need from God, because we looking through our eyes and not God's eyes. Why are we complaining because we not looking through God's eyes, but through man's eyes. Was God just in his punishment, God is seeing something more then we can, when he pours out his wrath upon the people. Remember in the story of Zedekiah this week, God's wrath was coming to surrounding nations but time was not yet. God was at a point of anger upon the people he just blessed with meat. It may sound flippant offer, like handing a child a cracker that wants a cookie. If the child complains long enough, he either get a cookie or punishment. Are we less then God in far as correcting our children. Why because to teach a child that he can not get everything he wants, will enable him to eat those beans for a month, or that gravy for a year to survive if need be. Yet at some point even the child needs a change and God knows this, but instead of complaining and grumbling why not simply ask. Remember this that Holy Spirit intercedes for us in all kinds of groaning when we pray(Romans 8).

God filling of His Spirit in our lives to teach us to live for Him, to obey HIm, and to spread his Love for humanity. There are times we do not fully understand God's love for mankind. Numbers 11 perhaps is one place God's grace is pours out to mankind only to be reject by the people through their attitude. God knows we can not keep our attitude in check all the time, but He also expects us to thank him for small deliverance. To have a grateful heart. God keeps all his promises to us. To provide and take of us. Sometimes it is small deliverance, sometimes it huge. We would all like the big provision, but it not always. Yet what I can guarantee it will be enough.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for your supply, even when I fail to fully be thankful. Help me to remember your grace and your sight being more then mine. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Romans 8:24-28 KJV
24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
