Daily Devotions:
by Christina Farris

2 Kings 2:15-22 KJV
15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
16 And they said unto him, Behold now, there be with thy servants fifty strong men; let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy master: lest peradventure the Spirit of the LORD hath taken him up, and cast him upon some mountain, or into some valley. And he said, Ye shall not send.
17 And when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, Send. They sent therefore fifty men; and they sought three days, but found him not.
18 And when they came again to him, (for he tarried at Jericho,) he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Go not?
19 And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Behold, I pray thee, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord seeth: but the water is naught, and the ground barren.
20 And he said, Bring me a new cruse, and put salt therein. And they brought it to him.
21 And he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast the salt in there, and said, Thus saith the LORD, I have healed these waters; there shall not be from thence any more death or barren land.
22 So the waters were healed unto this day, according to the saying of Elisha which he spake.

The guilt of Elisha for not sending anyone to see where Elijah went. Why would Elisha feel guity when he saw Elijah go up in a whirlwind. Many tornadoes cast someone from point A to point B. The prophets doubted the story probably Elisha told them of how God chariot came and took Elijah up into heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha vision of Elijah going up would be what would have been experience that would change his life. He would hit the water to part it has Elijah had not even sure who this God of Elijah was. The idea of what he had seen would change the course of perhaps his own life rooting him into the power of God to the point he long for that same experience of being taken up. Elisha allow the prophets time to go search to make sure Elijah was not laying on some rock, or hill side. Of course they return to tell Elisha they could not find Elijah and Elisha scolded saying did I tell you not to look.

Vision that causes faith is not always received will by others. It not enough if other miracles have ever occured, because it is the human doubt of the event that is in question. No one else seeing the event could only imagine what else could or might have happened. Elijah was standing right beside Elisha when the event occured, yet he Elisha would go wondering about the God of Elijah. With the experience of rapture occuring there was no evidence of Elijah demise. Now the water of the village was barren and not fit for drinking. Elisha poured salt into it so that it was drinkable once more. No doubt Jericho did not believe the story, but with fifty prophets and purifying of the water a revival would of broken out. What would convince Jericho of Elijah death, but the miracle of their barren land becoming fruitful and their water drinkable and not tasting nasty no more. I do not know how long it took the land to become fruitful again. I sure it did not occur like the bean stalk in the children book growing over night, but if it did it would enable faith immediately, yet the story says Elisha said the water was healed, did not say the people said it was purified. Perhaps as Elisha travel he could only go by faith what God told him to speak and went on his merry way. I can imagine the first blade of grass or sprout of a tree being seen only to the village it was true. The healing was even until now.

The point we do not always see the effects of our prayers, or the immediate result of a miracle. We can not stick around to see, but if God performed a miracle, or given vision it should be enough for you to obey by speaking the words God give you even when afraid. I do not doubt that confidence was built for Elisha with the vision, but he still was not sure after that about this God of Elijah.

When you experience the interworkings of God's power, you know for yourself there are times when God does things unexpected, and overwhelming, and yet the power of God may even been mysterious as well. It not enough to experience God's power to understand the importance of pressing on in whatever road you travel with him down. The next town Elisha comes to his a group of forty-two children that bully him. He reigned a curse down on them in the name of the Lord. And two mother bears came and all forty-two children were ripped apart. God's power going forth by his man Elisha, no but the hand of God protecting his prophet, showing him the power of the words used wisely and perhaps even unwisely as a man called by God. Moses need more proof then a burning bush, and even decided he needed someone to speak for him.

What does it take for you to believe in God? What does it take for you believe God loved you so much that He gave his only begotten Son to die for your sins? What does it take for you to believe miracles can happen? Take pen and paper, write down what it will take for you to have faith? Put it somewhere you will not loose it no matter how silly it sounds to you. Do not let anyone else see it. Your not reading this by mistake this morning. You are not reading this by mistake this evening or afternoon. Somethings will not be returned to you, some things, will not be given to you as a sign. However what God wants to do is heal you spiritually, to draw you to him. Jacob sign was that he would return to Bethel where he had his vision of the ladder descending from heaven. Jacob was on journey running from his father that he deceived. No doubt he was already a little homesick, but not to far yet from home. A great king of Babylon proof came by way of lions den. The king had Daniel thrown into a lions den, and the next Daniel had not been eaten by lions, but protected by his God. Thomas needed to see the nail scar hands of Jesus to believe he rose from the grave. Do not be ashamed of what you wrote down, we all need something. Yet remember God provision of what you ask, might not be exactly what you ask, but what is best for you and you will know the difference. God desire is to grant the desire of the heart, but it must be according to the will of God for your life, It must be in God's eternal plan as well. You want healing to begin in your life start by believing in Jesus. Begin by believing some truth you know that is believable. There are verse in scripture we know is true, that are not miracles. Example we know there was a king name Darius, that is taught in public high school. We know there was time period of Egyptians, Persian, Greek and Roman Empires. Start with the history of the Bible not just their stories. That probably not enough to believe the Bible is true, but it is a start. What in scripture is there that can be proven scientifically as a possibility, then what about miracles the unexplained but by act of God. Is there any other kind of reasoning. Probably not. Don't worry the question to God are okay. The doubts are okay. God is a loving understanding God. Be healed of the guilt of doubt and questions in the name of Jesus. Let it begin with simplicity of faith of what is, and try believing in God, why not. Today is the hour to try believing in God.

Dear Heavenly Father, help those with doubt this morning to try to have faith, to step up and say I will see if God is real. Lord build their faith this hour. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion: Daniel 6:11-28 KJV
11 Then these men assembled, and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.
12 Then they came near, and spake before the king concerning the king's decree; Hast thou not signed a decree, that every man that shall ask a petition of any God or man within thirty days, save of thee, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered and said, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which altereth not.
13 Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, which is of the children of the captivity of Judah, regardeth not thee, O king, nor the decree that thou hast signed, but maketh his petition three times a day.
14 Then the king, when he heard these words, was sore displeased with himself, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him: and he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver him.
15 Then these men assembled unto the king, and said unto the king, Know, O king, that the law of the Medes and Persians is, That no decree nor statute which the king establisheth may be changed.
16 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee.
17 And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel.
18 Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of musick brought before him: and his sleep went from him.
19 Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions.
20 And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions?
21 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.
22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.
23 Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.
24 And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.
25 Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.
26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.
28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.
