Time of Christ: The Stone That Rolled Away
08/27/2016

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

John 11:33-46 KJV
(33) When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,
(34) And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.
(35) Jesus wept.
(36) Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!
(37) And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?
(38) Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.
(39) Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.
(40) Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?
(41) Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.
(42) And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
(43) And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
(44) And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
(45) Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.
(46) But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.

What kind of wall are you leaving behind. Jericho had a wall that was built and crumbled but even markers of its existence existed even until at least its unearthing. The Great Wall of China though it had times of destruction still stands in part today. The wall in Jerusalem exist. The East Berlin wall crumbled in Germany in the nineties opening the door of nazis regime to walk through into the free world. Walls are made to keep people out and not to be allowed in. Most walls have a gate or several gates in which to enter. The wall of the tomb with gate or stone has only entrance and two direction one of ascension and the other of going descending into hell. The stone that blocks the opening has no bearing on the direction a person is headed in, it only blocks the direction of going to and fro upon the earth. The flesh no longer returning to the world and only spiritually can one leave the body and go to their eternity. However it only happens when a person is totally dead. Usually signs of death is prior to the body being placed in a tomb. Yet it only a reminder of the spiritual doors that are not locked by the grave. Ghost hunters looking for evidence of the after life, only to find evidence of gas or toxic fumes that cause the appearance of apparition. Demon of darkness inhabit those who allow them in.

Jesus wept is the shortest verse in the Bible. Jesus mourns for the unbeliever and not so much for the lost of his friend, for his friend would be in paradise with him one day. This emotion is for what is about to take place, yet it appears mourning for a friend. Yet the crowd is moved by Jesus sorrow, not fully understanding what we know He knew. Raising Lazarus up was not issue, he done it before and would do it again. Yet the issue was it been four days. The body of the dead would begin to stink. Lazarus for four days without a bath would begin to stink even if alive. Yet Lazarus was dead the stone had been sealed over the grave to keep the smell from coming forth from the tomb. The cave would have been cool, but even with the coolness order would come forth. The smell of rotting flesh is something not to be desired. Even with the best perfumes anointing the body would not hold the stench down completely. Jesus reach that tomb and said roll back the stone.

Rolling back that gate of the body being able to roam the earth once more. Lazarus come forth Jesus said. Lazarus came walking out of the tomb covered in grave clothes. Neighbors and friends believed in Jesus after that and even some went to tell the priest in Jerusalem. Without the possibility of death coming back from the grave after such length of time, perhaps the next resurrection would not be believable. There is only one person I know that can raise the dead after four days and on the third day of being dead and His name is Jesus. Other resurrection had happened in scripture even at the time of Elijah. Yet no one had been raised after four days in scripture tell the time of Lazarus resurrection. By the fourth day of someone being dead, people are usually beginning to reality of someone being gone and functioning to going on with life. The mourning of death taking place because of shock and loss of someone loved, can effect even months ahead. Yet the possibility of coming back to life was now opened to four days dead. Yet Jesus himself would come forth on the third day.

The tomb of death to hell is not for the believer, but the tomb to life eternal into heaven is. Yet there is ascension into the clourd to meet Jesus that will come when the saints that have passed rise again. It kind of like coming up on stage when the last act of a play is given to take a bow. What more evidence will the world need with Christ appearance to fall to their knees in repentance. What kind of wall was Jesus making upon his own resurrection as well as Lazarus a wall of faithful believers, each being a stone in his wall that would shield and protect the story of Jesus for centuries.

Dear Heavenly Father may the hope of resurrection come alive for each believer has they think on the story of Lazarus coming forth from the grave. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

1 Thessalonians 4:14-18 KJV
(14) For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
(15) For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
(16) For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
(17) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
(18) Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
