The Stone As The Intercessor
08/25/2016

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Joshua 24:21-27 KJV
(21) And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD.
(22) And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.
(23) Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel.
(24) And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.
(25) So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
(26) And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the LORD.
(27) And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.

This story of the stone is allegory to the coming of Christ the rock of salvation. It hard to grasp the swearing of allegiance to a particular set of rules as in the time of scripture. It is the pledging of saying I will agree to the terms of faith or set of rules. When people become citizens of the United States they are informed of certain laws in our land that they must obey. All laws are made for obedience but the number of laws only a few are necessary to explain basic rights. The agreement to obey our laws is part of becoming a U. S. citizen. To be American born no such covenant is made. One would think it would be good to have American Citizenship class for all people. It more of understood code of conduct taught in school by history and basic laws of our amendments tell students how are nation was formed. Yet no agreement to say one will submit to our nation laws. Perhaps because of our freedom to help change laws or make new ones, it would be almost impossible to enforce such alliance in the same way as scripture.

To pledge allegiance to a nation’s religious laws would be agreement that one’s God was superior. The distance to Israel to join in alliance was to far for some to travel. With making of a stone it gave freedom of government from Israel with worship to God. As gentile nation that gave allegiance to Israel fell to worshiping idols and disobeying the law of faith of Israel, a need for intercessor arose. The stone for a time had given this allegiance, but eventually a generation would fall away. There would be those that worship God but would be consider outcast to Israel because of the nation disobedience. The need for Savior the rock of faith to come not only for Israel but the gentiles. Someone teaching and preaching gathering the faithful back in as well coverting the lost. Jesus was and is that stone of faith. He is the intercessor to God as Priest and Lord. Salvation coming to all that believed. No longer a physical stone in the since of actual stone, but a stone of unchanging spiritual law. Faith being the key factor in receiving Jesus as one’s stone of faith. It is the sacrificing of one’s own old convictions to faith in a Living Stone. A Stone that resurrected on the third day. A stone that did not stayed buried when other laws occur in a nation that was in opposition to God law’s. The inalienable right of faith and belief in Christ would last through the century despite nations trying to destroy faith in Christ. A believe in God being one thing that unites believers everywhere to one God, not a God of destruction for the believer, but a God of hope to all that trust. A standard of living set for all that believed. Each believer changed by the hand of God by the Holy Spirit upon belief in Jesus.

Dear Heavenly Father you established the stone of faith in your Son, who by the Holy Spirit writes the laws on our hearts so we learn not to sin against you. May your Stone shine forth in a darken world that is searching for one law of faith. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Colossians 3:10-17 KJV
(10) And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
(11) Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
(12) Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
(13) Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
(14) And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
(15) And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
(16) Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
(17) And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
