Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

2 Timothy 1:5-14 KJV
(5) When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
(6) Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
(7) For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
(8) Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
(9) Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
(10) But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
(11) Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
(12) For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
(13) Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
(14) That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

How does faith begin in many of us that were raised in church came from a good foundation of others that were brought up in the faith of Christ Jesus. It matter not if all were saved in a church there were always groups in churches of prayer warriors and Bible Study leaders. One of my own favorite teachers has probably gone on to be with the Lord. She was old when I was six years old. I can remember being taught Bible even at age six. It really matters that teachers and prayers that are leading that makes a huge difference in the teaching. To be so anointed that even little kids want to listen to the adult teachers, because they spoke not only on the level of the adults but simple enough for the children to understand. Of course children would not understand everything said, but the stories of scripture would be remembered. I can only image physically sitting at Christ feet as he told stories to the disciples and the crowd. To sit an listen to people like Paul we get an idea through the letters left behind.

Aunt Deb as we called her in the medium size Baptize church. She was not really our aunt, but she sat us down in the basement on Wednesday night church service, and began to expound on the scripture of Acts telling the story of how Saul became blind and then could see, and that his name got changed to Paul. The road to Damascus was exciting tale to a little girl who probably had heard mom and dad tell it at least several times. Point is you grow from the moment you first hear something. A baby learns to speak or do anything for that matter with repetition. Yet when a baby begins to understand that what he or she says has actually meaning a whole new world opens up to them when learning to talk. It is like crawling and walking these actions are just movement until the idea if I take a step forward I can go in that direction and get my toy. It like hearing the word God. You might understand it from a small child point of view for a time, but sooner or later the deeper meaning of the gospel will open to you. The simple fact is, it not the repetition for the believer that he learns from, but by the Holy Spirit. As with anything in life certain things will prick the core of the heart. From I like to be nicer to my family, and better wife. To that eternal life really begins to make since. There has to be something beyond our world, one lives in.

Timothy as a child sat at the knee of grandmother and mother hearing scripture but it was Paul a minister of faith that perhaps enlighten or expound on the scripture more soundly. Not that Timothy did not believe his family, it was that Paul had knowledge do his priestly education, that could explain things Timothy might not have been taught. It is the main reason why ministers often go on the Seminary, or Bible College of some sort. Some learn through reading everything they can get their hands on and others learn through studying scripture and do research on it as much as they can with tools they have access too.

Young Timothy was taught by his family and other ministers. He did not have the degree of education of other men, but he was lead to people like Paul who could explain certain things more clearly. God used ministers of all kinds to help people learn certain information in scripture that was perhaps even lost to people of even Paul’s day. That ancient ways might seem important to learn. To study Old Testament and be New Testament Christians seems pointless until you understand that history of the world and how it grew is recorded also by people of God. Bible is religious account of the world being formed and how tribes grew and defeat the enemy. How building of God’s house is important. Most of all faith change the course of history from defeat to victory.

To have good teachers is important so pray for your teachers and leaders in your church. Pray that God leads you to teachers and ministers that can expound on scripture. That the foundation Christ be laid of faith in your life. That the hope of faith that Paul so vividly portraits in his letters, be sound in one’s heart and mind. Do not believe ever teacher, but examine scripture for yourself and ask God about it. To be able to grow one must be willing to study God’s word when time allows and when one makes time for it.

How will truth reign in your heart, the Holy Spirit will keep what you give him and He gives you to call to mind to help someone else, to rooted you in faith, and to excess your wisdom of God and faith in Christ Jesus. Never fear about wrong information when you trust your teacher the Holy Spirit. God might anoint many teachers but the best is Himself. Learn God’s voice for when difficult situation come you know it is God’s instruction to you.

Dear Heavenly Father teach me Lord your ways. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

1 John 2:27 KJV
(27) But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.
