Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Isaiah 7:14 KJV
(14) Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

Isaiah 9:6-7 KJV
(6) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
(7) Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

Isaiah talked about the virgin birth to come and his name would be Immanuel. In the Greek the name is Emmanuel. The one letter change from Hebrew and Greek Alphabet can be a stumbling stone to those that do not know the Bible is written in more then one language the third being Aramaic. Yet these three languages offer insight to the unity of prophecy. To know that the Jews would not accept the Messiah for a time period, is only a benefit to the relationship of the gentile nation and their struggle to unit with Israel. Israel a nation of segregation by faith has always been the hardest to understand the importance of separation if God allowed all to worship Him. It is the standard that God has set before them to uphold by the laws that govern themselves and their nation. Yet God in his wisdom would send the Messiah to enlighten the Gentiles to His ways. Giving them image they could bow too. Something tangible they could see.

The need for some to have image or something tangible to hold on to is a necessity. God is spirit and the worshipper must worship in spirit an truth, the idea of image needed, only helps in the story of Nicodemus in John 3 where it says one must be born again. Spiritual birth is to be born of God and Christ Jesus. In Isaiah it is clear the Messiah would be called not only prince of peace but the mighty God and everlasting Father. The one thing that combines Father and Son is the same spirit is within them both. Christ’s Spirit was and is the Holy Spirit.

God born of the flesh was not something new, he came as a man more then once to talk to people. Came in a form they would understand, but Jesus being born allowed him to grow up like we all do. Growing up not for our benefit, but for our understanding He knows what it is to be human. God allowed the chief corner stone position to be a stumbling stone to some, and salvation to others because of this.

Dear Heavenly Father may Christ not be a stumbling stone to those seeking you. May his purpose in coming as a man not be lost by those seeking you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

Isaiah 8:13-18 KJV
(13) Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
(14) And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
(15) And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
(16) Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.
(17) And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
(18) Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.
