Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Psalms 98:1-9 KJV
(1) A Psalm. O sing unto the LORD a new song; for he hath done marvellous things: his right hand, and his holy arm, hath gotten him the victory.
(2) The LORD hath made known his salvation: his righteousness hath he openly shewed in the sight of the heathen.
(3) He hath remembered his mercy and his truth toward the house of Israel: all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
(4) Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.
(5) Sing unto the LORD with the harp; with the harp, and the voice of a psalm.
(6) With trumpets and sound of cornet make a joyful noise before the LORD, the King.
(7) Let the sea roar, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.
(8) Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills be joyful together
(9) Before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.

Perhaps the one thing that can be noted from the imperfection of the leaders in scripture is that their righteousness did not come from perfection and was known among the heathens of their unholiness at times. Yet they won victories and this testified to the kingdoms around them that fell because of their faith in their God. There God went before them in victory despite their imperfection. Heathens around knew of this God of Israel. God wants the heathen to know of His salvation through faith in Him. The righteousness is not by works but by faith. No one is perfect, yet it within our imperfection the world sees the value of our faith when God moves publicly in our life, whether we are prepared or not.

The simple fact is the ability no matter who we are to praise the Lord for his mercy and salvation plan for us, upon faith. Each person can have adoration on their lips to worship God and know the grace and/love He has for his people that believe. The Psalms was written before Christ. Yet salvations has always come with faith. Sacrifice always been for atonement of sin. Christ being the final sacrifice for sin and is resurrection demonstration of eternal life and hope. Christ was the promise of salvation through belief. He came as a promise from God. Part of God’s prophesy is believing in what is to come by faith. Believing the Word of God will and has happened. If God speaks to your heart to go another way do you obey that call on your heart to go to work down another road even if it is longer. Do you give someone your last change because God told you too? Do you walk the last mile to your destination because your car broke down only to find someone knows how to do car repairs at your destination. God’s supply in the middle of a storm, to yourself moving as God’s Spirit directs to fulfill the need of another.

Is our prayer and worship life in such a way that even when we feel empty, rundown and without fuel, that God’s Spirit still comes down and speaks to our heart filling us with His presence. Adoration and worship is one of the ways we speak to God about who He is and the thankfulness of the blessings in our life. Why are we not like David who was not afraid to pull out his harp, or dance in the streets to praise our God. If God is so important in our life are we singing those songs of praise or at the least speaking them. Not all praise has to be sung, but all praise should be given whether with shout or silently in our hearts. Let us bring out the instruments of praise to sing to the Lord.

A friend this week only reminded me of the simple pulling out of the old guitar and singing the old hymns and gospel songs of youth, along with new ones. I have a guitar and I do not play well but I like to strum out a few songs myself on occasion. It is like sitting and picking at the piano the notes of a song of praise. It might not be will played, but it the adoration of the heart that is important. It the spirit of worship. Never felt the inclination on my clarinet to really play the hymns. Yet perhaps it the strum of the strings and sound of the piano that reminds me of how I heard the Gospel songs played.

Music has many sounds. Some songs are of God and some are not of God, yet it is stilled played. God in our daily life speaking through songs and music whether in church or out only reminds one of God’s goodness and mercy and the telling of the stories of faith and the old rugged cross. Without Christ death and resurrection we would face the punishment of sin, except for the sins sacrifice that had already been paid for by sacrifice on altar, excluding sin God did not hold against us, because of faith.

Our sin debt was greater then sacrifice and burnt offerings given to the Lord. The need for daily sacrifice was real. Yet Abraham found righteousness because of faith and his works only demonstrated his faith. Without faith given by evidence of God moving in our life, we might be lost forever. Without the proof of God’s love by his removal of sacrificial law through His son we still be trying to pay the price for our sins. As our heart sings and rejoices in His salvation plan for mankind, let us not leave out the cross when reading the Old Testament but realize it was before the time of Christ. That salvation was given to each one through faith and the holding to the promises of God. Standing on the promises of Christ my Savior is one of the old hymn lyrics. How true it is to stand on what God has spoke to the prophets of Old, and New covenant of faith. Without faith without belief, would any of us be saved. The cross only declares salvation through burying of our sins, and the resurrection of life. Christ cross being more because God said whosoever believed would not perish would have eternal life. Worship God this morning for his great salvation plan through faith in Christ Jesus the Son and Word of the living God.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for your great love for us that while we were yet sinners your Son died for us, taking away our sin through the final sacrifice for sin. May we hold to your promise of past and present concerning the Messiah through faith. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

2 Corinthians 4:13-18 KJV
(13) We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak;
(14) Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.
(15) For all things are for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.
(16) For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day.
(17) For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
(18) While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
