Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Matthew 16:13-20 KJV
(13) When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
(14) And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
(15) He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
(16) And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
(17) And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
(18) And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
(19) And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
(20) Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.

Jesus was chosen/anointed for this religious service of being the Messiah/Christ by God. The meaning Christ is the anointed one. Something to think on for God to send a sacrifice of His Word a price had to be paid for God to give man eternal life after casting man out of the garden of Eden. God set the price at the cost of his Son/Word. Yet the price paid God was able to raise His Word/Son back up. Reestablish of the law of God in the hearts of man. Jesus carried the burden of the cost of sin on His shoulders. He was chosen for the task to prove God’s ability to raise us up again. Christ death alone would not be enough for Christ being God had to go step further and raise the holy men of old up out of the grave according to Matthew 27. The ability to raise up the dead is important. Not a dead of four days old but holy men of old. His kingdom established upon His resurrection and His throne being taken as ascended into Heaven before he served his forty days on earth after the resurrection in his glorified body. A lot to understand about Jesus. To die in one sin, is to face the punishment for sin. As a believer to absent or dead in the body is to be present with the Lord. No longer dead in the spiritual sense but alive with Him in heaven.

Jesus asked the disciples who the crowd said he was. Some believed Jesus was one of the dead prophets raised to life. Interesting answer when on thinks about it. All the stories of old came to life as Jesus healed the sick, lame, the blind and the deaf. Jesus reestablished the law of faith meaning to love Lord thy God and love others has yourself. The law of obedience took away the law of love at times. If one went strictly by the law of judgment there would be no mercy. God gave mercy even when we break His laws. He is willing to forgive, if we will only turn away from sin. No He is willing to forgive because Jesus paid the price for sin and we only have to believe in the one He sent to pay the price for sin. God willingly allowed us to kill His Son/Word to forgive us and not to place judgment on the believer for the way we mishandle His word or fail to obey. Instead He continues to sanctify us through His Word.

An example of the word being twisted would be Peter being the rock that would establish the church. Peter help build the church by spreading the Gospel but the church foundation and rock was Christ/ The Word of God. Peter was a stone built on the chief cornerstone. Peter would only lead the church for a time. He could build nothing on His own. Kingdom was built on the anointed one/Messiah one chosen for the purpose of sacrifice and redemption through His resurrection. That anyone that would believe in Him would be saved. Christ calls the believer to obedient to the word of God, to be holy to be a royal priesthood prepared for good works. The church was not established for evil. Christ came to establish the gentile nation to be a holy nation unto God.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for sending your Son to die for my sins. For sending the anointed one for the sole purpose to demonstrate your power beyond the grave. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

Romans 10:2-11 KJV
(2) For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
(3) For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
(4) For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
(5) For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.
(6) But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:)
(7) Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)
(8) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
(9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
(10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
(11) For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
