Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Exodus 31:12-18 KJV
(12) And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
(13) Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.
(14) Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.
(15) Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
(16) Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.
(17) It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
(18) And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

It hard grasp the idea of God taking the time to write in stone his laws. God is personal God, but a God that desires to remind you of his laws and ways, so you will understand his laws are not grievous. These laws God wrote down for us on two tablets of stone were the ten commandments. The main laws had to do with honoring God, and then respecting family and others. Man would make copies of these two stones and carry them on their shoulders the laws of God to remind them of their faith. These ten laws would be the base of all laws man would ever create and use to judge and execute judgment on others.

Our government wants to remove the base of all laws from our government buildings, because they see no need to worship God. Yet some still in power worship God. It not that the idea of respecting others is not agreed upon it is the worship of God that is not agreed upon. Some people believe not in one God. Other people do not believe in God at all and then you have those that believe in God and yet define God many different ways to suit their ideology of God. Despite how people in our nation define God in our constitution, God for Jews and Christian is always going to be the same. Now a Jew might argue that Christians believe not in Jehovah or worship both Jehovah and another God name Jesus. Yet for the Christian Jesus is not only the Son of God but the very Word of God in the flesh. Jesus being part of the oneness of God, and yet Jesus is also individual seen and yet carries the whole Godhead within his body. For God is spirit and the spirit of God lived within the walls of the flesh of Jesus and was and is Jesus. Not all people believe this, and so defining God with us is more then just Spirit to the Christian. The first few laws of the ten commandments has to do with honoring God in worship and to keep the Sabbath Holy. To not honor the Sabbath comes with a warning. The Sabbath was a covenant between God and man. With the law of many business go against he Sabbath the only thing people can do is choose a day to worship God to keep their families feed. Some preach that if you honor the Sabbath tradition you never have to worry about feeding your family, yet a person might loose their job over not working on Sunday or Saturday depending on which day by tradition is your Sabbath. The world wants to take our faith from us. Yet the truth of the matter it up to individual to worship God. Will God honor a non traditional Sabbath, so you work and feed your family. Jesus on the cross said forgive them for they know not what they do. Jesus was speaking of the people killing him, but I also think Jesus understands the inability to obey every aspect of God’s law on earth. War causes killing, people cheat on their spouse, and people seek other faiths to determine if what the Bible teaches is true. Only to be caught in a devil snare. I interpret the Sabbath as day to honor God and commune with Him. Many honor God daily and worship God in praise daily. God commands at the minimum one day a week. It is easy to forget God in the middle of a busy week. Cleaning out a closet does one have a praise on their lips all the time. When on hits their thumb with a hammer does praise come from one’s lips? The point being non of us worship God 24/7 even though we might try. It takes God in our hearts to remind us daily to worship him. The law was not enough to remind us to worship him. We need His Spirit writing the laws on our hearts. When Christ came, he then sent the Holy Spirit after his resurrection to do just that. God gave the Holy Spirit to Moses and then the seventy elders. Moses realized he could not be the only one with a relationship with God to lead a people. These laws writen down by God’s own hand could be read and learned by the people. Defining of these laws came from society rules and judgment is then delivered. Yet God the author of his laws should be the govern of his laws and judge of his laws. To play God puts people in a dangerous seat of judgment.

Dear Heavenly Father let us be reminded by your Spirit the importance of worship you not only daily but taking time during the week to rest and honor you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

Hebrews 10:1-18 KJV
(1) For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
(2) For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
(3) But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
(4) For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
(5) Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
(6) In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
(7) Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
(8) Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
(9) Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
(10) By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
(11) And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
(12) But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
(13) From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.
(14) For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
(15) Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,
(16) This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;
(17) And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.
(18) Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.
