The Finger Of God

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Exodus 8:16-21 KJV
(16) And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
(17) And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt.
(18) And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast.
(19) Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
(20) And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me.
(21) Else, if thou wilt not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are.

God’s finger is something that can bring both judgment and salvation. It is a finger that cannot be controlled or duplicated by magicians. Several plagues happened, and something could be duplicated by the magicians of Pharaoh. By the time the plague of the licing came, the magicians could not perform a plague of lice. Anyone knowing anything about lice it is contagious. I never had the problem but it not unusual for kids to get it and past it to others. It not always gotten from filthiness it can be simply handling a bird, or bird nest. Lice is like a flea for birds. The ability to multiply is endless, yet it could not be duplicated by the magicians. Only thing that takes care of lice is soap with chemical to kill even the eggs of the lice. I have to wonder did Egypt have recurrences after the lice were gone. However, Pharaoh’s own magicians said this is God’s finger that is causing this plagues. By the power of God by the pleading to Moses and Aaron the plague of the lice would be removed only for Pharaoh to tell them he would not let the people go and worship God. Then another plague from God would be sent. Nothing was going to stop the plagues until it finally touch the throne by the death of the first born son of all of Egypt.

What is God’s finger but the power to send forth judgment of plagues to the writing on stone tablets, or the heart of stone of man. Without the God changing the cold heart of man there is no salvation. God has the power to harden or open the heart door of man, yet in general he gives man a choice, but he did not Pharaoh. How cold hearted does one heart have to be for God to not allow your heart door be open to the message of faith and belief in God. Was Pharaoh heart only harden to keep him from unbelief, or was it because his heart was truly that cold that God would not allow it to be open. Even God had the power to redeem even one such as Pharaoh, yet the plagues were a testimony against Egypt.

What if God told every business owner to shut down for Sunday and reenact what is call a blue law to keep business closed so the people could worship God. What if it was done for both Saturday and Sunday. No doubt some business would have no issue but others would throw a fit. What if God sent a plague because business chose not to allow the people to worship God and refused to shut those businesses. Our nation would be in uproar especially commerce and trade.

These plagues efected all of Egypt not just the Pharaoh. It would of effect the lives of the people enslaved to pharaoh who worked for Pharaoh and themselves. The Egyptians who own slaves of the Hebrew people would of found themselves in a fix for they would loose money if they allowed the people time to go worship their God. The idea of making things easier for a people was ludicrous in fact the Hebrew people were forced to gather their own straw to make bricks where once it was brought to them. They also had to learn to make bricks where bricks where given to them. Their task and work load increased with each plague and their production of work had to remain the same. Several plagues would of killed the weak of Egypt no doubt. Yet it would change Egypt economics quickly. Some plagues would have been just a major discomfort. Only solution would be to enforce more productivity of the people whose God was causing the problem.

The plague of frogs would of meant an abundance of frog legs for dinner, but repugnant smell of reptile in the baking sun. The loss of cattle would of meant less meat for the table. Yet all these thing were called the finger of God by the magicians who backed away from trying to duplicate the plagues that were coming. Perhaps it was the rapt succession of the plagues that made the magicians understand God’s finger was on this. God’s finger was in the judgment of Egypt.

We do not want to think what if God had used his hand on Egypt what would have happened. God only used one finger. God wrote the judgment with one finger on the wall of King Belshazzar during the time of Daniel. The judgment being against king but only Hebrew man could interpret it. Yet both the pharaoh and king repented not at the warning or judgment of God and they both would loose their own life.

God’s power to over turn evil in a few days or in a day when judgment comes. Judgment coming does not mean when the change of power comes it will be better, only that God judgment came swift. One can only hope with new elected candidate things will get better in America, but it depends on what group is in power what their policy are and how they desire the nation to do things for improvement. Persia control was not necessarily better at the time of Daniel, but it was change by the hand of God. One does not want to find themselves at the end of God’s finger for judgment. He knows how to write his judgment in stone with permanent ink.

Dear Heavenly Father help our nation not to be found with judgment of permanent ink without a chance of repentance. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

Continual Scripture Study for Devotion:

John 8:6-10 KJV
(6) This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
(7) So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
(8) And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
(9) And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
(10) When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
