Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Psalms 50:1-23 KJV
(1) A Psalm of Asaph. The mighty God, even the LORD, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof.
(2) Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God hath shined.
(3) Our God shall come, and shall not keep silence: a fire shall devour before him, and it shall be very tempestuous round about him.
(4) He shall call to the heavens from above, and to the earth, that he may judge his people.
(5) Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.
(6) And the heavens shall declare his righteousness: for God is judge himself. Selah.
(7) Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God.
(8) I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me.
(9) I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds.
(10) For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills.
(11) I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
(12) If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
(13) Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?
(14) Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
(15) And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
(16) But unto the wicked God saith, What hast thou to do to declare my statutes, or that thou shouldest take my covenant in thy mouth?
(17) Seeing thou hatest instruction, and castest my words behind thee.
(18) When thou sawest a thief, then thou consentedst with him, and hast been partaker with adulterers.
(19) Thou givest thy mouth to evil, and thy tongue frameth deceit.
(20) Thou sittest and speakest against thy brother; thou slanderest thine own mother's son.
(21) These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes.
(22) Now consider this, ye that forget God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver.
(23) Whoso offereth praise glorifieth me: and to him that ordereth his conversation aright will I shew the salvation of God.

God’s word says God is a consuming fire and yet the judgment of God on a beautiful day seems far fetch unless disaster strikes. I can remember being so sick and having a good day playing cards with my husband, when that awful phone rang and told me there no cure and no solution from myelofibrosis. God declared a day later in my Bible reading He was my healer and I went home for we had been at my folks when the call came. It was the longest drive yet, but God had declared his healing power. Six months later I was doing better and blood count was up to normal. Yet it was not enough to keep me where I needed to be at that time in my life. I sometimes wonder did I need a rock to fall on my head, or just the stillness of his voice. I had his miracle more then once and yet I struggled not in faith but in obedience to God. Even the devil believes and trembles. Our God is a consuming fire. He destroys through judgment those who follow not at his word. After all even the devil believes and trembles. Faith without action does have consequences. Jesus taught to love God and to love others, but action by itself is no good either. The combination is to love and believe in God and His Salvation plan. His plan being Jesus the Word of God in the flesh. The cross bringing reality to His promise of eternal salvation.

One can not be attending church and live like the devil the rest of the week and think it is okay with God. To say once saved always saved is like saying to someone that loves to steal that all I have to do is go to the altar and tomorrow I am back in business. To say to someone that loves to kill, it is say go to the altar and repent and go back to work. Salvation is not to be used as a get out of jail free card, nor is it to be used for the work of devil, because I have such a card. If you ever played Monopoly you know that get out of jail free card does not prevent you from spending money to buy property, it only allows you to spend more money. In truth the term once saved always saved has given people of no understanding the idea it is okay to sin. It is okay to continue as you are with no change. A prostitute stuck in prostitution seldom can get out of her situation, but the grace of God can provide her an escape. When Israel turned back to God when they were in exile there chains did not immediately come off, yet the chains came off as they continue to trust in God. Sin is gone upon belief in God’s salvation through Christ Jesus, but sometimes it takes that work of grace to rid a sinner of sin. It the time of knowing something sin and turning that over to God to change one’s life. A slave did not leave slavery because of sin, but continued to work for his owner.

People are enslaved to their country, to the world, to their families and their job. Yet people are also enslaved to sin in some cases to walk way is certain death. That is where pray comes into place, first repentance and then seeking God on how to either be a witness in your station in life, or turn from it completely anything that is obstructive to faith and works. After all Naaman (II Kings Bible) found grace to kneel with his boss at a shrine though he believe in the God that had healed him. Yet Gideon found himself tearing down the altars of Baal that surround Israel. Let God free you if you are in a situation you can not get out of. Talk to God you might be like Gideon (Bible the Book of Judges) or you might be like Naaman. Yet either way you faith has healed you when you believe in Jesus. For Jesus heals all sinners of there sin upon belief in Him.

Sacrifice and religiosity, or belief and action because of faith. God is only pleased with one and that is faith with action. God’s pardon is greater then the pardon of man against evil. When the world choose evil with action of service of God they being a devil. When the world choose to sin without repentance, without change it is at a heart level. When a believer stuck in a place they can not walk away from without death, or harm to someone else that is entrapment God can deliver you from, but it not over night. That why faith and action begins in the heart of man and not outwardly. Do not allow what people say to destroy you, allow the word of God to convict and to change your life. Offer the praise and sacrifice that pleases God and do not do evil for evil sake, or because you to not desire not to obey God. God will deliver you if you have a pure heart. God will enable you even when evil surrounds you.

Dear Heavenly Father help us to trust in you to the point our heart is toward you in faith and action. That we trust solely in your word to turn from evil despite our bondage to this old world. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
