The Time Of Christ: The Wisdom Of Jesus
8/15/2015

Daily Devotions: by Christina Farris

Matthew 13:54-58 KJV
(54) And when he was come into his own country, he taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?
(55) Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
(56) And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?
(57) And they were offended in him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house.
(58) And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.

What will get you saved, or to have faith in Jesus? Some need miracles and other need wisdom and yet some need something more. I do not think it hard to understand Jesus was a good teacher. I think what hard for people to understand is the fact that Jesus was the Savior to the world. That He came to take the sins from the world. One way of taking one sins is teaching one not only to forgive others and oneself, but that God can forgive if you repent. To repent is the turning away from sin and it is a choice. It is more then saying you are sorry, but making a life change, not by your own power but by the power of God as you surrender your life to Jesus and God.

Jesus was raised in Nazareth a place of both Gentile and Jew. A place that would have had to have more evidence then miracles and words of wisdom. Needed more proof because Jesus was just a carpenter to them. Not a prophet or a teacher, yet he displayed words of wisdom like they never heard before. He spoke in a manner not accustom to his growing up years. Yet I am sure religious training was instill in the home and spoken of among his people. Yet perhaps they never heard Jesus teach. They would of come to Jesus and His Father for wood supplies and when they needed something built, not to be taught in the synagogue. What was this man before his neighbors that taught them. Had he the prophetic gift and they had been unaware. Did they not believe in the least of God ability to anoint even a carpenter.

Prophets are seldom welcomed in their home town because how they grew up is clearly known. There mistakes known and their imperfection of being just a person. Not all understand a prophet is just mortal like everyone else. However Jesus was more then a man, he was the only begotten of the Father God, though he was born to Joseph and Mary household.

The people could clearly see the wisdom in what Jesus said but they had a problem with accepting him as a prophet or even a teacher. This is not unusual, but one might ask why is it so difficult to accept that people have more then one talent. Movie stars are said that if you get placed in certain movies it is sometime hard to get picked for a different type of role. People see these people only as the cowboy, or gun slinger and not the father, or grandfather of a normal or semi normal family. Jesus problem was no different. His role in society was a carpenter or so the people thought.

Jesus disguise to the world, to his people of who he was, is seen in his village, yet it was purpose to keep Him safe til the time of his ministry. When we think of this we can understand why after Jesus was resurrected he spent forty days in Galilee teaching the people. I do not doubt he went into Nazareth. I do not doubt he showed the people the nailed scarred hands and the wound in his side for proof. The waking of the people would of begun during this time. Yet for now their sleepiness was a good thing. God’s wisdom to minister to the people, by keeping some blinded for a greater purpose.

Dear Heavenly Father thank you for the wisdom of Christ teaching and the opening of our eyes to who Jesus truly is as more then just a good prophet. In Jesus precious name, Amen.
