Nesting On A Solid Rock 04/20/2021
Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisNumbers 24:1-25 KJV
1 And when Balaam saw that it pleased the LORD to bless Israel, he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness.
2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes, and he saw Israel abiding in his tents according to their tribes; and the spirit of God came upon him.
3 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:
4 He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
5 How goodly are thy tents, O Jacob, and thy tabernacles, O Israel!
6 As the valleys are they spread forth, as gardens by the river's side, as the trees of lign aloes which the LORD hath planted, and as cedar trees beside the waters.
7 He shall pour the water out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in many waters, and his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted.
8 God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn: he shall eat up the nations his enemies, and shall break their bones, and pierce them through with his arrows.
9 He couched, he lay down as a lion, and as a great lion: who shall stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee.
10 And Balak's anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together: and Balak said unto Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and, behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times.
11 Therefore now flee thou to thy place: I thought to promote thee unto great honour; but, lo, the LORD hath kept thee back from honour.
12 And Balaam said unto Balak, Spake I not also to thy messengers which thou sentest unto me, saying,
13 If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the commandment of the LORD, to do either good or bad of mine own mind; but what the LORD saith, that will I speak?
14 And now, behold, I go unto my people: come therefore, and I will advertise thee what this people shall do to thy people in the latter days.
15 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor hath said, and the man whose eyes are open hath said:
16 He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:
17 I shall see him, but not now: I shall behold him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and shall smite the corners of Moab, and destroy all the children of Sheth.
18 And Edom shall be a possession, Seir also shall be a possession for his enemies; and Israel shall do valiantly.
19 Out of Jacob shall come he that shall have dominion, and shall destroy him that remaineth of the city.
20 And when he looked on Amalek, he took up his parable, and said, Amalek was the first of the nations; but his latter end shall be that he perish for ever.
21 And he looked on the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Strong is thy dwellingplace, and thou puttest thy nest in a rock.
22 Nevertheless the Kenite shall be wasted, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive.
23 And he took up his parable, and said, Alas, who shall live when God doeth this!
24 And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and shall afflict Asshur, and shall afflict Eber, and he also shall perish for ever.
25 And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his way.
Kenite nation would put their nest on a rock, on solid place but they would still be wasted(hebrew word to burn). Who were the Kenites but the tribe of the father in law to Moses. Several things to note about this passage a false prophet is speaking the words of the Lord. He believes in God's authority, but yet does the opposite generally until it a mandidate from God. He himself can only speak God's words at God's direction. Interesting Thing is Balaam talks to Balak you soon learn that Balak was going to pay Balaam and honor him if he would curse the children of Israel. However because Balak desire to have Israel curse the curse of destruction would fall on his people after the Messiah/Christ coming. Messanic prophesy in verse 17 of the passage above. "A star would come ouf of Jacob and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel and shall smite the corners of Moab and destroy all the children of Sheth." This is the area which the wise men probably came out of, they would follow the star to Bethlehem. We know Israel would one day be destroyed along with other sections of the Biblical area/territory.
The rock of safety to build one's nest on would be Jesus. Though the areas would be destroy would Christ still reign? The answer is yes, for the gospel is taken forth into many areas of the world. Some to places that have not heard about Jesus in many centuries. Why is the prophesies of Balaam important, it allows one to know that even heathens can prophesy the word of God by God's power and might, and not by their own accord.
If we want to build on the foundation of God we must build on the word of God. A nest to me never seem like a really safe shelter, until you realize baby birds only live there only a few months and then the nest is usually blown away with the wind, left, or torn down by the bird who builds a bigger nest the next year. Yet what remains is the bird that built the original nest. Why is this? Our material possessions are just that, things that will not remain on a rock, but are things that will be remove from our lives and our hearts, that are not build on the rock of Jesus the word of God. Know that if we remain standing on the rock of faith despite the destruction of things in our life and things in our world we wil inherit the kingdom of God.
What interesting is the kenites were build on a solid foundation would be destroyed as well. One might ask why this destruction, why this fall. Balaam feared God, obeyed God, but did not honor God in regards of worship. We live in a society of rights and wrongs, and the laws of our land though solidly built original on God's laws and faith, will not always stand in our world in which we live. Yet our nation is strong and as long as we unite and are allowed to be different our nation will probably survive through many heart aches. Yet
no nation can survive on the lies of Satan and his word. Even false prophets in our land must speak what God tells them too. Yet there is a difference in worshipping God and submission to him. Allowing God to be the only ruler in your life or only director of your heart. Balaam would of taken Balak money but could not, because in truth it was not the will of God for Israel to be cursed. Because of this, the land of Balak was cursed. Balaam did not worship God but obeyed him.
What is happening, God let's go of Balaam mouth he is free to take the money Balak offers him for whatever service. It like asking a minister to use a certain text for funeral or a wedding. He is being paid for the service. He is performing a ceremony by the legal law and not necessarily religious law, but some church require by religious law. The minister that married my husband and I over 31 years ago had us kneel at the altar. It was not my request in performance of the wedding. If I seen the minister marry other people I would of probably known this was a tradition of the church or minister. Did it bother me no, but caught me off guard. I had more or less eloped. No planned wedding and no I was not pregnant. I just wanted to go ahead and get married, I felt it was the Lord's will at the time. It has to do with one not being able to go against religious law, legal law or God's word spoken. Religious law and God's word spoken ought to be the same but it not always and in the case of Balaam it was not. It kind of like when Aaron made the molten calf in the wilderness, it was not his faith but he was doing what the people asked, to both their shame. Aaron was not killed that day for making the molten calf, but those that would not stand with Moses' God perished that day.
Many people find that solid rock of Christ and will stand, but those in lands that fail to follow God and Christ Jesus will fall, even if they allow the traditions of the faith of Christ Jesus. We live in a world that allows Christianity into their country but is not their countries faith and maybe never will be, these countries are built for destruction. Yet the term destruction seem like an enemy talking or a threat, it is not. God is clear that the whole earth will be destroy with fire. Yet who remains those that are taken up to met our Savior in the sky. What happened if believers are walking through fire, walking through destruction, we were not design for destruction, but for God to build his word in us. Stop there God after our salvation destroying the things not of him out of our life. Things not design by him will be destroyed in our life. Earth is not our eternal home and neither is heaven it is the New city of Jerusalem that comes down from heaven. The kingdom of God will be with man one day. What he builds in us are those things of him, those behaviors that are not of him will be cut away by Him. Those desires not of him will be removed and those rituals not of him will not remain in our life.
God is not declaring Kenites not capable of salvation those things not of God must be destroyed. God will perform and do this for his glory. I think one of the hardest things as a believer is not to want to pick up and whittle things out of another person's life, but we soon learn if we can see it in someone else life, we need to whittle away our own log in our life that maybe exactly that same log. We can not help another without having the log in our own life removed first. Balaam knew he did not serve God neither did Balak, but he could not remove Balak false faith without first removing his own false faith that was not of God.
Where is your faith this morning is it built on the solid rock of Jesus, are you allowing God to build you up and to do a work in your life, or are you just trying to remove the log out of another so you can still earn your money, and honor as Balaam spoke the truth to Balak with his own log problem?
Dear Heavenly Father, remove those things that hender our walk and faith in you, help our loyalty to be sold out to you. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch?
40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.
43 For a good tree bringeth not forth corrupt fruit; neither doth a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.
44 For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.
45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.
46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
47 Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like:
48 He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.
49 But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.
