Daily Devotions: by Christina FarrisExodus 16:1-30 KJV
1 And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.
2 And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:
3 And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.
4 Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.
5 And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.
6 And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:
7 And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what are we, that ye murmur against us?
8 And Moses said, This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.
9 And Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings.
10 And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.
11 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
12 I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
13 And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.
14 And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.
15 And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.
16 This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.
17 And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.
18 And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.
19 And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.
20 Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.
21 And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.
22 And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.
23 And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.
24 And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.
25 And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.
26 Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.
27 And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.
28 And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?
29 See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.
30 So the people rested on the seventh day.
Baby cries for milk from the moment it is born to the moment man dies. Who do we cry for our daily food. My cat will tell you, he knows how to meow when I tell my husband it is lunch time, because he usually feeds him when I shout out to my husband it is time for lunch. I once even called my own mother and said I do not know what I going to do because hubby and I were fixing to run out of food. Now when you get so low on groceries that you know you can count the meals before it will begone vs the time of the next paycheck, it can become frightful. I do know the hour or the day when my own trust in faith for what I ate began, or time period of lapse of that same trust in God. Why do I say period of lapse, it easy to forget the past journey when you looking only with your human eyes and not your spiritual eyes. I talking about this, because one can ask is the story of manna true in relationship to God and Israel and the intercessors? The answer is yes.
I not sure in the story when Moses talked to God about manna, but I know this discourse came directly from God because he heard the cries of Israel being hungry in the wilderness. There is a difference when God grants you something because you have need and when you ask God and he gives it. Israel was begging Moses and Aaron for food. Moses and Aaron had no more food then the children of Israel, yet the children of Israel was hungry.
God grants them manna and quail. God heard the cries to Moses and Aaron, but they were not to him. God had brought the children of Israel out of Egypt not to starve, but he put the burden of food did not fall to God but to Moses and Aaron. When God spoke to the children of Israel intercessors about his provision the children waited to see about quail and manna. Moses and Aaron were spokesmen for God, but the children did not seek God only the intercessor. Did not ask what God was going to do, only what Moses and Aaron was going to do about the starvation.
In the morning Israel woke to find manna and the evening they had quail. Aaron and Moses quickly told them it was from the Lord. Now a child learns quickly food has to be grown or killed for a meal, if not then they have to have money to buy food that packaged and made ready for cooking. God is patient with Israel because they had not learn to trust him for food supply.
What is my point the time of trust and a lack of judgement from God. God had every reason to get a new batch of people to lead, instead he got people that are looking only to the ministers and not getting the idea to trust in him. If you want to know where faith begins, it sometimes comes from the point out of a miracle in the storm of life that one can not produce themselves and no one around them can produce it either. Moses and Aaron had no idea where food was coming from but they knew the one that could provide, yet God comes to Moses and Aaron and says I provide manna from heaven and quail to eat. Let it be known Lord gave them this food.
In Revelations 2 at the end of the discourse of the letter to the church of Pergamos John tells the church to repent and that God would give them hidden manna and will give him a white stone with a new name, that only the one that receiveth it knows. The church was no different then Israel when it came to faith, but salvation came with hidden manna and a new name written on the stone.
There things we take on faith and there things we grab a hold of in our memory as believers. Our new name as a believer is written down on a stone. When we get saved when we turn from sin we must learn to trust God for hidden manna to keep not only our faith alive and health, but to feed our soul. It like a wild animal turning over a log to eat the grub worms and things found under a log. A source of protein but not always our desire. God's food is bitter at times and sweet tasting at other times. It bitter to purge us and sweet so we can handle the bitterness that reaches our stomaches. To not know God grace, we never would turn from our unbelief and our wickness of sin. Our belief coming with the first step of faith, our wickedness purge daily from us through God's sanctification process of the Holy Spirit. That spiritual food coming down from heaven by the Holy Spirit hidden in our hearts.
There are things we learn to trust God for to keep our spirituality alive and well, the reason being because if we rely on the minister to always feed us, then we rely only on what the minister thinks we need and not what we truly hunger for and that is that special relationship between God and ourselves. God could of brought judgment on Israel, but he desire to transform them to not only believers but people that would allow him to provide for their needs both physically and spiritually.
In the story of Philistines sending God back to Israel, we had the other day, we can see God not feeding the Philistines but baby food to increase the knowledge of fear and judgement for not honor him only. The ark returns to the children of Israel to the land where his people are that will hear his love for them. Philistines had not undestood his grace, the getting of attention of God to provoke wrath because Lord God was thought to be a God they could kidnap and own as possession. They were not ready for a relationship with this God that inflicted them because God was not like their idol Dagon.
It getting to that place of seeking the one with the power and not the one that has no power to perform the miracles except the power God gives them. Are we trusting God or the things we understand and see. God is preparing his people to receive the one stone, the hidden manna of faith and the truth of his word. Preparing them to receive a new name on that stone only they know. We have to come to a place of faith.
Dear Heavenly Father bring your people to faith and trust only in you to provide what is needed. In Jesus precious name, Amen.

16 Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.
17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.
